Good on you. I really do think most people have a similar understanding of what a boycott is. And some might not have turned up but personally if I had paid out 600 quid to sponsor a player that I liked (as you generally sponsor players you like) then I would definitely turn up and sit and have dinner with him. Even if to get an inside perspective of what's gone on. Drink water so you don't give them any money if you really are that principled.iainment said:

And even better, I expect it will have gone down quite badly with KM & co this morning.

Because trying to detach myself from the bigger picture, very much like the kind of pleasant detachment it is possible to feel when watching the youth or U21's...as it will be next week at the Kent Cup Final..., I want to consider what anybody is actually going to do with regard to League One next season.
It is a division absolutely dependent on either a stupendous team ethic, or a large number of outstanding individuals in order to have any chance.
How are we going to build as good or better a team ethic than the other clubs?
Are we going to have so many outstanding individuals they will simply take turns to overwhelm opponents?
Are we going to have both?
Or are we going to have what we have now, largely mediocre individuals, and a team ethic that for me simply does not exist?
If we don't start addressing the challenges of next season as of last Wednesday morning at the latest, then rock bottom will get lower.3 -

Thanks for the reports; very enlightening, if not surprising. There is really no beginning to KM's talents, it seems.
There's more than a few newspaper stories in this - lots of juicy titbits. If we can make sure that they get to the relevant journos, then hopefully some articles will then appear which will pile on the embarrassment for RD/KM....I get the feeling we are reaching critical mass here.
One thing is obvious - we have no hope in hell of being promoted under the current incompetents. However, I feel strangely optimistic that we are reaching the tipping point where there is such a godawful mess in SE7 that even RD is not going to want to invest the time, money and stress that it will take to try (no doubt unsuccessfully) to sort it out.

From conversations on our table, communiication from 'the top' to the players is as bad as to 'us', they are up for a battle to come straight back up again, they have been told to stay around until May 13 (?) in case of 'incidents (Tex not happy with this as he has holiday booked!), the managerial/head coach changes have NOT been helpful (though Peeters reported to have told a player to 'go away' when asked for a meeting, as of 6.00pm last night Mr Riga had not spoken with RD. The general feeling in good-spirited-despite-the situation chat with players was 'shambles'. 4.00 am return from Bolton not greatly appreciated. Squad info texted to players involved during Friday evening, starting XI not told until 12.30 on 3pm match-day.5

I can endorse the other accounts of last night's proceedings.
On arrival the players' moods were apprehensive, perhaps preparing in advance to face embittered and vocal fans. Gradually there came the feeling that all in the room were finding a common cause, which can be summed up in a single word - betrayal. The club's name lies trampled underfoot, the fans' dreams have been shattered, and players' careers have been put in jeopardy by a relegation that was simultaneously inevitable and unnecessary. JR did his usual charming best on the night but I think he is heartbroken by what has happened and also by what lies ahead.
To a man the players did themselves great credit and hopefully the mood will carry over into what could be a very special PoTY (ahem, tickets still available). It may be the last chance to interact with a remarkable group of guys, many of whom inevitably will have left by the time we "go again". My great favourite is PB5, and maybe next week it will be a case of Auf Wiedersehen, Pat, although I really hope not.
Owners, players and coaches come and go - the fans remain. This special club's heart still beats as strongly as ever, albeit the pulse may be a bit erratic. Sooner or later, if last night's spirit is anything to go by, with a little good fortune better days will come again.

Agreed. Essentially we are going to have to build a team of a similar quality to the one Powell built. On top of that, as Jacko said recently, they are going to need to rekindle some of the team spirit from that year also. I have no faith that this regime can firstly build the right kind of team, and everything going on in the background at the club will have a detrimental affect on the players mentality. RD, KM and Co. have absolutely no chance of getting it right, we absolutely need them to sell so that we can have a completely fresh start ahead of next season.seth plum said:

The rule is, that Ex Players tells you more than current Players.
The fact that so many Players yesterday told it like it is; tells you how few of them will be at the Valley next season, as long as their Agents get to work,plus can the players pass a Proper medical.
And last but not least, is any only club interested in players who have struggled in the Championship ?
Being told by a 1st team player, the FIRST WEEK Riga took over, that the difference this time around was we didn't have 4 games in hand and that it was going to be hard to stay up, didn't fill me with confidence.12 -
Thanks for saying that. Just what I would have said. Why should I not go when I paid for it last July, what would that achieve? The club's had the money for nine months. I am certainly not missing something I've paid for. Very enjoyable, managed quite of lot of "chats", so I enjoyed it, and don't care what anyone thinks. I have been to the shirt sponsors event in happier times for the club. I was dreading last night and as GlassHalfFull said earlier the players seemed apprehensive about how they would be approached by us.
I was surprised at how much they wanted to know about how the fans are feeling about the situation at the club. They are as unhappy with the management as we are.
I was surprised at how open they were. Usually players are very circumspect when talking about the club at these sort of events.21 -
