Randy Lerner

Even the shambolic owner of Villa is better than Roland!

    Just imagining RD's statement:

"Owner Roland Duchatelet says Charlton's relegation from the Championship "lies at the fan's customer's feet and no-one else's."

  • Under Lerner Aston Villa reached a Cup Final and qualified twice for Europe as well - compared to some clubs (eyes averted) you'd have to consider him fairly reasonable as an overseas owner, whatever his errors in the last year or so.

The difference between Lerner and RD is that when Lerner serves a mediocre sandwich he is prepared to put sugar on it.

Initially he provided a reasonable budget, and the team achieved as might be expected for a club of that size. He then reduced the budget and the club under performed in relation to what might be deemed reasonable expectations for a club of that size. He appeared to adopt a strategy where the club operated simply to raise money buying and selling on young players. This was a relegation that has been coming a long time.

Hasn't the club been for sale for several years now?

After the first few years, he was unwilling (or unable ) to fund the club properly, and lost interest in it.

Unwilling certainly not unable being a billionaire.

"Owner Roland Duchatelet says Charlton's relegation from the Championship is all part of a long-term plan and indicates how the side continues to improve."
