Katrien Meire says the club “do not want to build up expectations” as Charlton prepare for League 1

“Hopefully on the back of the successful season, we can rebuild.”
What does this mean? What successful season? Does it mean survive next year and then rebuild?
Absolute joke.6 -
i honestly had no expectations this season, merely to maintain our status as a Championship club, that would have done me.
next season I expect us to be challenging top 6.
but I know it's not going to happen with these reprobates in charge.
every time she opens her mouth, it's rubbish or fabrication. she can't win, surely she must realise that. she could say we will have the number 1 budget in L1 and we'll be doing everything in our power to get promoted, it wouldn't make a jot of difference because of her and Duchatelet's track record. she's trying to appease the customers, that is all.
smoke and mirrors.
if they really wanted to be serious, they'd be in discussions now with proven League experienced managers.
but it won't happen.
not often I plead but piss off....all of you.5 -
And people still fork out for season tickets...11
-
Remember Chris Powell's simple and inspiring message: "One aim"? And he delivered.
Now we have "don't build up your expectations." How very encouraging. The queues for season tickets will stretch for miles.26 -
Actually this is ONE statement from our CEO that you might be able to take at face value.
There may be an element of truth to this one.
Steady everyone - Katrien in acceptance of piss poor aspiration shock and readiness to admit Charlton are going to be an average League One club.
Why, it's ALMOST an admission of failure before we even start.....

'Do not want to build up expectations'
'We will do everything we can to return to the Championship'.
Which one is it then, Katrien?
As I said earlier, not a fucking clue.

Bet she flunked cheerleader class.7

Every season a complete overhaul of the playing staff, coaching staff with no continuity. This is not how a successful team is built.johnny73 said:If current financial regulations already impact on existing league 1 teams then a top 6 budget must mean a massive cull of the playing staff. We've guessed a lot of players would be leaving and now the club have confirmed it.
A top 6 budget will not guarantee any kind of success with these clueless muppets.2 -
Top 6 budget! Do Leicester have a top six budget? Of course they don't. It is about feeling you have a chance. As CEO she should have come out and said 'we are planning for an immediate return to the championship anything other than promotion will be seen as failure'.

“The only way to get out of this is to work together with the fans on the current issues, so hopefully the fans won’t see a sale as the only option.
The thing I notice from the statement is that they want to work together with the current issues but they never spell out or identify what these issues are. Its just more vague, general unaccountable, untrustworthy meaningless bullshit sound bites.
The ship has long sailed on the hope that Charlton supporters won't see a sale as the only option. It is the only option where there is a bright or successful future for Charlton.
Get out of our club. Sale is the only option. Sooner or later it is going to happen.

Richest owner in league 1 but only a top 6 budget. Sums it up really.6

It is an outstanding quote for many many reasons:
1. The expectations going into the new season are already rather low. So they should stay there?
2. If you have just admitted that we have a top 6 budget...surely if we do not achieve top 6, which is at least a playoff place, then wouldn't that be a failure? They do not want promotion, period.
3. The whole point of this regime (as so they say) was to prove to achieve higher then our budget. That's what RD prides himself on right?
4. She should be attempting to get fans at least a bit more excited for the new season. Will we even see the club win matches? That's usually the only consolation for relegated clubs. Not for us it seems.
5. Even if we got promoted, many of the problems would still exist and we would just go straight back down again.
6. Even if we got back to the championship, shifting season tickets would still be a huge challenge.
We are so far far far away from even being a half decent championship side now.
The whole ordeal is pathetic and the club is run by children.
Roland Duchatelet has ruined the club.17 -
She really is taking the piss2
-
Come on guys you are taking things out of context again, what she means by "don't build up your expectations" is "we want to build a great matchday experience"3
-
Just off to buy a season ticket.12
-
She really is just a pathetic idiot.5
-
The only "current issue" is Roland and Katy still running our club. I'm sure CARD will be very happy to work to resolve this issue.7
-
It's the new football. Don't have aspirations, don't worry about the customers and don't plan for anything better. But most importantly keep the sofa.2
-
I think she JUST figured Roly out.0

Fuck off.8

I think this is why they need a Comms Manager5

Assuming the top 6 budget is true then fans of any other club would be thinking - if we get the player recruitment right with a good manager who knows the division and are well run off the pitch we've a good chance of automatic promotion. Laughable with this lot - relegation is a near certainty.3
-
Why all the negativity , with our ' senior management team ' we surely must be going places !!0
-
Just fuck off witch.0

i had not renewed my season ticket but given these uplifting words from our CEO i will join the queue tomorrow.
This chat about 'top 6 budget' - why would she know what other clubs budgets are for next season already?2 -
Another example of shooting themselves in the foot, I think.Brighton Addick said:Assuming the top 6 budget is true then fans of any other club would be thinking - if we get the player recruitment right with a good manager who knows the division and are well run off the pitch we've a good chance of automatic promotion. Telling every other club out there that we'll have a top 6 budget has ensured they'll add a further another 50k on the price tag around any player we're asking after.
SUCH great business acumen !

We'll never be promoted under this ownership, they've got it wrong repeatedly in so many areas.
As before they'll look to take shortcuts and save money wherever they think they can.
If you're going to look for bargains and young prospects it's even more important that you get the scouting and coaching right.
They'll assume players like Sarr, Ba, Ceballos etc will be good enough in League One. Same with a number of the u21s. There's no short term loan window from next season either so if we're struggling the only way of improving the squad before January will be bringing in free transfers.
We've also been told RD wants coaches he can trust so I can only see that continuing with another network or Belgian coach coming in.
They'll bring in a few more English players this time but otherwise it'll be more of the same.4 -

He met Lennie last week. Doesn't sound as if it went that well.Scoham said:We'll never be promoted under this ownership, they've got it wrong repeatedly in so many areas.

Imagine if instead of saying:
"We don't want to build up expectations. Will have one of top six budgets in League 1. Hopefully on the back of a successful season, we can rebuild."
She said:
"We want everyone to get behind the team. We will have the top budget in League 1. We will have a successful season, we can rebuild, we will get promoted and back on our path to the Premiership".
We'd have all given her just as much stick as 'here we go, lying again', 'lies lies lies', 'they wouldn't know how to get promoted' etc
The relationship (if you can call it that) between the regime and us the fans has become so toxic they may as well just say nothing (although we will berate them for that as well)...... whatever she says, we will never believe them.
Even they must now realise that they have no other option but to sell. I sincerely hope they have realised and are in discussions with relevant potential buyers, thats what I want to believe anyway.
