Recently returned to bikes.  Only been away for a few years but really missed not having a bike.  No sports bike for me in my 60’s.  Love the retro style.  Bought a secondhand Triumph T120 Bonneville.  Great bike - love it.  My 6th Triumph over many years...but definitely a fine weather rider theses days.
March 51's Triumph Bonneville is sitting in the garage. I would love to learn how to ride it and use it. I'd have to fix it first - I asked the Triumph Owners Club guys if it would be easy when we were at his wake. They told me dad had a tendency to fix things with gaffer tape. What a way to find out your old man isn't a master engineer.

I had a problem starting my old CBR600F when warm. They charged me a lot and it turned out it hadn't been fixed.

Before that when I traded in my CBF125 they listed it for more than I'd given John Riley for it 4000 miles earlier. I also have a mate who agreed a sale to them then they reduced the offer at the 11th hour. So they feel like chancers compared to other dealers I've used.

I had a problem with my PS125, it was stuttering and cutting out when idling. They charged me nearly 70 quid for diagnostics and said there was nothing wrong.

I took it to a guy in Mile End who listened to the bike. He took out the fuel injection unit and showed me all the dirt in it. He put another one in and charged me 30 quid.

I never had a problem after that. Did over 30,000 miles on it.
  • Can anyone recommend a good place for servicing an old Triumph bike? Swanley/Dartford area?

    1970 Daytona SS100 500cc twin.
    Service plus oil leak
EDIT -it’s been off the road a while so can’t ride it there. Would need to be transported.
i don’t really mind where to go
  • Is it yours @Arsenetatters?

I keep getting tempted to buy another bike but living in London don’t really need one. Equally it would need a sidecar to transport the 🐕

I second Trimoto. Really experienced with Triumphs and very customer friendly. My bike is with them now for a service and the bloke next door does MOTs.

No, not mine - I went on a bike once and it frightened the life out of me.
it’s Nick’s (Mr Tatters) and he wants to get it going again.

Ah, good to know 2 people recommend it. Would they be able to transport it or is it cheaper to get a man with van?

  • Late to this thread but have been riding for over 50 years. Had a break of four months this year because of a hip replacement but riding again and enjoying every minute

Treated myself to a Bonneville a couple of months back. Absolutely love it. Very nice!
  • Any Triumph riders in Kent are welcome to join the Maidstone RAT (Riders' Association of Triumph) group. We meet monthly in Aylesford and activities range from evening chippy runs to continental tours.

I'm still with my Ninja 300. It's been 7 years so I think I'll go back to a 'big' bike next year. Sports tourers appeal to me more now (maybe a Yamaha Tracer).

So, when you drive a car, you wear a white helmet, but not on a motorbike. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not really. It might not always look it, but I do sometimes wash my hair.

Whoa, we don't do Rate my Plate until Christmas.
  • I miss my motorbike so much.
  • Started with a Tiger 90 (350cc) at 16. Moved up to a T100SS (500cc) then a few years later a Trophy (650cc).  Then a massive gap of 10+ years to get a Thunderbird Triple (900cc).  Then another 10 year gap (2 Harleys in the interim) to a Bonneville T100 (900cc twin).  The onto an Bonneville T120 (1200cc).  Sold in 2021 and really miss having a bike have always been into Triumphs.  Currently looking at the new Speed Twin 400 - lighter and more manageable in my later years!
  • Just bought a 2020 triumph scrambler 1200xe. Traded in my 2014  Ducati Diavel for it, straight swap. The Duke is an absolute beast of a bike, but I didn't ride it much, being such a handful.  The scrambler is a lot more fun, and I'm out on it all the time.  I have some Hitchcock pipes, being delivered from the UK to finish off the look and sound.
