Two things that spring out of that match is.. 1) How cynical the Spanish teams are at the top - Ramos bringing down that fella in last minute was disgusting - this, in the same week that Barca displayed their nastier side. 2) At the same time, the quality of the players is vastly better than anything we have in the premiership.

There is no professional footballer on the planet who wouldn't have made that challenge. 93rd minute in the Champions League final and an Atletico player is breaking with runners either side of him, you're hardly going to let them run in on goal
And the premier league is the best in the world according to our press.... Leicester, Spurs etc would get torn a new one by both these teams, let alone Villa, Sunderland, Norwich, West Brom etc.

The other thing that springs out is how weak refs are on the big stage. Clattenburg could have improved his status by sending off Pepe but bottled it. That would have done tons for the game worldwide.

You're right, though I've long thought it is the kind of tackle that the authorities should take a far dimmer view of and do more to discourage. It is basically cheating and pretty anti-football.
Absolutely hate watching players for Spanish sides rolling around in feigned agony every time so much as a hand brushes their shoulder. It's bad enough in the Premier League these days but some of this lot take it to whole new level of embarrassment.
Feigning and wrestling at corners and attempting to get the ref to issue cards are the 3 biggest cancers of world football at moment. Thing is, they are easy to get rid of, if the establishment were strong enough.

You'd never guess from the tone of Owen Hargreaves voice though...

Really should be sending him off for that last one.
