Kerber was very close to Williams' level in that final. It is a hell of an achievement but suggesting she be 'retired' is ludicrous when she's winning on merit against players whose levels are higher than women's tennis has ever been.
Another thing: the top women players actively want 5-set tennis. It is the tournament organisers who deny them this, out of outdated principle.

The thing is greatness isn't just about how many titles you win, it's who you competed against, and I don't think women's tennis is anywhere near as strong as it's been in previous eras. Yes they have better rackets, so hit the ball harder, but a lot of the players have a very limited range of shots and little longevity.
Roger would easily have exceeded the number of titles Serena has won if Rafa or Novak hadn't been around, and vice versa. How many doubles titles would Andy Murray have won if he was able to play them.

I wasn't entirely serious in my suggestion that she be retired !
Every now and then you can really see the class difference between the two players. Raonic could be a very good player in the future if he can bring a bit more accuracy to that giant serve but right now he's not on Murray's level.

4-3 to Murray in first set.
He needs to work on the rest of his game as wont challenge the top four consistently using just his serve
Had Murray not won that set it would have been criminal!!
