  • Kerber was very close to Williams' level in that final. It is a hell of an achievement but suggesting she be 'retired' is ludicrous when she's winning on merit against players whose levels are higher than women's tennis has ever been.

Another thing: the top women players actively want 5-set tennis. It is the tournament organisers who deny them this, out of outdated principle.

The thing is greatness isn't just about how many titles you win, it's who you competed against, and I don't think women's tennis is anywhere near as strong as it's been in previous eras. Yes they have better rackets, so hit the ball harder, but a lot of the players have a very limited range of shots and little longevity.

Roger would easily have exceeded the number of titles Serena has won if Rafa or Novak hadn't been around, and vice versa. How many doubles titles would Andy Murray have won if he was able to play them.

I wasn't entirely serious in my suggestion that she be retired !
  • Enjoyed watching Gordon Reid win the wheelchair singles.
  • Come on Andy!!!
  • Hopefully Murray's class will tell. Raonic has already made a few groundstroke errors.
  • Murray breaks serve. Only sixth time Raonic has lost serve all tournament.

4-3 to Murray in first set.
  • Murray wins first set 6-4.
  • Playing really well today

  • Raonic hasnt even had a break point!!

He needs to work on the rest of his game as wont challenge the top four consistently using just his serve
  • Nervous about next game serving in the sun.
  • Raonic just had the fastest serve of the tournament (147mph) and Murray still won the point.
  • Who's Murray got today?

His returning has been unbelievable today.
  • Raonic to win this set on tie break for me
  • edited July 2016
Were the other three Serves all returned when they happened?
  • Everyone's at the tennis apparently.

They all turn up during Wimbledon.

  • Second set goes into a tie break... H2H record on tie breaks: Raonic 4-1 Murray
  • Raonic to win this set on tie break for me

Thought he'd just do it to try to win but I guess you give him that little extra motivation.
  • Murray has been superb so far, but I do worry about the tie breaks
  • Too good!
  • Who's Murray got today?

    Raonic
  • Who's Murray got today?

    Raonic
    C'mon Raonic
  • Phew.

Had Murray not won that set it would have been criminal!!
  • Raonic 4-6 6-7(3-7) Murray
  • Justice done in that set. Murray is making him look like a classless slugger.
  • Every now and then you can really see the class difference between the two players. Raonic could be a very good player in the future if he can bring a bit more accuracy to that giant serve but right now he's not on Murray's level.
