Demba Ba - horrific injury

Just been sent a clip of Demba Ba breaking his leg in a Chinese League game today. Holy shit! Horrific. Possibly the worst I've ever seen. Reckon that could be career threatening. Not linking it on here, but for any sadists that are interested, its all over Youtube.

Unbelievably bad. At the age of 31, I'll be very surprised if he ever plays again. Not only is it a very serious leg break, but the force of it could well have damaged his ligaments in his knee as it gave way beneath him.

Wish him a speedy recovery but I doubt he'll ever play again.
  • That's horrible ....
  • That's horrible, poor fella can't see him coming back from that
  • Not seen the clip but how does it compare to Buust, the Coventry player who damaged his leg/knee at Old Trafford in the 90's.

Having just looked at it, I'd say worse. Wish I hadn't looked.

Wish him all the best in his recovery, but will be amazed if he ever kicks a ball again.

    Worse. Its a horror show.
  • It isn't good, weird how these horror breaks often occur from innocuous challenges.
  • It is a horror one. The kickboxing one I saw a few years back desensitised me a bit, I can handle watching this one.

He'll be lucky to walk without a limp. Didn't seem like a major impact, guess it was a bit of a fluke.

The kickboxer one, is that the one where his leg wraps around the other guys and looks like its suddenly made of jelly? Can't watch stuff like this at the moment, girlfriend has just had a complete ACL reconstruction so anything leg related is sensitive

Had a mate do the same about 25 years ago, screaming like a banshee, whilst waiting for the ambulance. Spent ages in hospital and then had rods sticking out of his leg for a good while when he came out of hospital. Never played football again.

It doesn't worry me that much but 23 years of attending car accidents does that.

That's the one. Really doesn't get much worse.

I'd wager good money that you're a careful driver. Maybe we all need a wake up call once in a while. We're largely protected from the real horror.
  • Didn't ex Liverpool player Cisse have a similar break and came back?

Looks a lot worse than Cisse's
  • Absolutely horrible and could well be the end of his career.
  • I suppose the telling point will be whether he has either:

    1) Damaged any surrounding soft tissue such as his ligaments in his knee or even ankle, with it being a ground reaction force, followed by an accidental kick to the leg that gave way beneath him, he will be very lucky not to have done something in my opinion.

    2) A clean fracture, as in a total snap without any fragments from the break. This way they'll be able to pin it back together without too much hassle and a good blood supply will ensure he doesn't suffer as bad as what it could be.

All very early and without us being able to know more than just watching the video, his age, his recovery time, the amount of rehabilitation he will need due to the leg being so weak, and how bad it does look, I do highly doubt he will ever play again.
  • Also depends on just how good Chinese hospitals are at this type of thing, won't be any use to him waiting several extra days for a specialist surgeon

Will he not be insured for top medical care?

I imagine he has his own people with the money he has?
  • Good luck, Ba.

Awful tackle the ball well gone.
  • I can't be looking. Tore my cruciate at 19 and get a real phantom type thing whenever I see anything of that nature.

    Wishing him a speedy recovery
  • Give it a quick once over with the magic sponge and it'll fine
  • Surprised we haven't put a bid in for him yet!

Horrible injury. Wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully he'll play again.

Most of the top medical guys and girls are in the States and Europe though, and you aren't meant to fly with stuff like this, so it all depends on how quick they get someone out to China, unless they have invested in that side if the game as well as they have in players recently.

In all honesty, from the look of it, top medical care might be enough to get him walking without a limp. But if it's as bad as it looks, there are no surgeons going to get him playing again.
  • Most top, very well paid players have their own personal medical team now. It comes with insurance and some teams don't exactly like having players without it.

Drogba was the first to have this, he hired his own medical team that went everywhere with him whilst at Chelsea as well as having the club's staff. It's all in his book.

I would imagine the same would apply to Ba. Not that it would make a huge difference in this scenario considering how bad the injury looks.
  • Saw it on a Chinese social media website last night. Simply couldn't watch it again. I don't think he'll fully recover from that.....
  • Almost identical to one of my old team mates... 12-18 months recovery required.
