Surprised Fox didn't want 3. Hopefully no9 will be a new striker

A squad of 24, of which 4 are out injured for the foreseeable future, and one (Tex) is expected to be sold!

Has a bit of a Posh spice look to it at present

Kashi will get 3 when he's back. Indicates we are after another striker, and looks like Lookman is staying if he's got 7
  • You've got to feel sorry for poor number 6.

From Naby Sarr to Roger Johnson. Christ.

I would stick them at as the main post but my phone won't allow me to edit.

Interesting that Kennedy, Umerah, Thomas and RCC all had squad numbers last season but don't have one this season.

I was expecting at least Hanlan and Umerah to have squad numbers seeing as they were involved a lot in pre season. I guess that Slade doesn't see them fitting into his squad as much as we first thought.

    1. Declan Rudd - Decent signing
    2. Kevin Foley - No idea
    4. Johnnie Jackson - Legs have gone
    5. Patrick Bauer - Legs are healing
    6. Roger Johnson - Mouth needs cleaning out
    7. Ademola Lookman - Now a winger?
    8. Andrew Crofts - No idea
10 Nicky Ajose - Decent looking signing
    11. Ricky Holmes - Decent looking signing
    12. Alou Diarra - Legs have to be going
    13. Dillon Phillips - OK as a back up.
    15. Ezri Konsa - Ok as back up
    16. Jason Pearce - No idea
    17. Tareiq Holmes-Dennis - Should be no.3
    18. Karlan Ahearne-Grant - Last chance saloon.
    20. Chris Solly - Knees struggled last season
    21. Morgan Fox - could be good at this level... but please take the no.3 shirt.
    22. El-Hadji Ba - Move on please chap... otherwise kick on please.
    23.Oliver Muldoon - TBC
    25. Ahmed Kashi - Once he's back I hope we see what we saw around a year ago... just for more games please.
    26. Harry Lennon - Good back up.
    27. Dimitar Mitov - Needs a loan.
    30. Lee Novak - Why 30? Should be no.9
    50. Jorge Teixeira - Same number as last season, not concerned yet.

I'm hoping it's a statement to those players...

"Earn your squad numbers. Show me you deserve to have one."

I am surprised about Hanlan as he's been involved a lot in pre season and has impressed.

Until Bergdych goes, I guess he "owns" number 3; Igor is 14, so they can't use that either as he'll be next year. Now left hoping for a Prem loan number 9....

It's a bit strange for me, although it's clear that this was sorted out at the last minute. Thought those two would at least get squad numbers. I think saying "earn your number" is irrelevant. Hanlan has looked good in pre-season, Umerah looks a decent player and was unlucky to get a nasty injury. I assume this means Hanlan won't be on the bench tomorrow, which means that the three strikers in our team will be Ajose, KAG, and Nowak if fit.

Ah didn't see him down there, thanks
  • Didn't Novak want 9?

Why not? No different to Watt always wanting no. 32...

Novak 'opted' for the Number 30 shirt, obviously didnt fancy 9.

I think it's easy to read too much into squad numbers, but here, let me read something into them:

    1. Not surprisingly, Tex has kept 50, which I suspect means he's on the move (otherwise I think he'd get a higher number
    2. RoJo will have a big role to play given he has the number 6 shirt
    3. With Lookie taking 7, I hope that means we intend to keep him. That said, even if we intend to keep him, a big offer might come along that we can't refuse.
    4. I hope Kashi taking 25 is by choice (I vaguely recall that he wore that at a previous club but could be wrong) and not an indicator that he's off once he's fit.
    5. Desperately wish we had a more impressive number 8 than Crofts, but numbers only mean so much

I think it's a statement all right, but to Meire and Duchatelet. Taking off the third keeper and five (?) injured that is the smallest possible squad Slade could have given numbers in order to put out 18 players tomorrow. Like his style.

We are signing a new number 3.
Fox is on standby at 21. 2+1=3

He was. ZB was number 19.

Teixeira wants 5, Bauer has first dibs on it so instead of getting a random number he stuck with 50, as 5+0 is still 5. Dont be surprised if he puts a tiny decimal point between the numbers on his kit, like Zamorano at Inter wanted number 9 but Ronaldo had it, so we went for 18 and drew a plus sign between the numbers

We are overloaded at centre back. Tex must be off - better off putting the money towards a midfielder.

Oh yeah I think he'll be off too, but I'm saying why he chose 50 least season, and why he's sticking with it now. He could have chosen 47,48,49 last year, or subs other random number, but he chose 50 as it was the closest to 5 he could get

KAG rumoured to be going out on loan to a League two team

Squad numbers mean nothing. Usually more sentimental value.
