Perthes Disease

  • I had it as a kid. Was nearly 30 years ago and im sure treatment has changed but its an emotional rollercoaster for all for a good few years. I was in traction for months and had several operations requiring pins and plates. Touch wood im all good now, i've been left with a permanent limp and it seizes up in winter a bit but its not stopped me in life playing years of football until recently. You need your family and all fight through it together. Funnily enough it was the physios at Charlton who thought it was Perthes Disease. So i have them to thank as A&E at Queen Marys at the time diagnosed a groin strain and a sprained knee.
