The guy runs non-stop, holds up the ball well, tirelessly competes for cack long balls, and scores the odd goal. Yet all game the 'part-timer for a fiver' next to me continually berated him. Most memorable line was "Go on, get your fat arse after it, you LUMP", as Magennis tried to single handedly close down the opposition defence.
Thing is, he isn't slow. In fact, he came in as second-fastest player at the Euros.
That may all be true, I'm only going on 90 minutes Saturday and I saw a disinterested player who didn't close down, didn't challenge often enough and rarely broke into a sprint. If did run non-stop, hold up the ball and compete tirelessly it must have been in the 5 minutes I missed at the start of the second half.

Magennis has been excellent overall - our best performer. Can't do it on his own every game
He seems to have been the one bright light this season so far along with flashes from Lookman who has probably been a bit under-used and a decent start from Holmes which we desperately need him to continue
Dont see Konsa as a CM but I would definitely move Holmes there and bring Botaka into the side. The Bolton game was one of our best performances of the season with Holmes playing as the creative CM we are currently missing. Its about the only game this season I can remember anyone playing a forward through ball through to Ajose.
This side is capable of addressing our inability to score more than 1 goal a game.
The team that you have just posted here is without doubt good enough to challenge for the top six, the fact that Slade can't see it sums him up perfectly. Get rid soon as

Unless I dreamt it, someone recently gave the perfect response to the question at the top of this thread.
It may well have been @GlassHalfFull & if so, I apologise for stealing his thunder but it seems a particularly pertinent answer at this moment in time.
Lack of creativity in midfield. We could hear Magennis yell at Crofts for not tracking an attacking Rochdale defender. Why in Hades should Magennis be doing all the work? Because our midfield is too slow and cumbersome. There was one moment on Saturday that summed up Crofts when he attempted to pass the ball with his right foot instead of the easier choice of left foot to Fox a few yards away in plenty os space a few yards away and put it out for a Rochdale throw. Holmes, with all his skill, fails to make the obvious pass and try to beat one too many players. Jacko chasing shadows and Ulvestad shuffling around like a spare prick at a wedding. And then you have incidents like Fox busting a nut to get a cross in and not one single Charlton player is in the box to take advantage. And then everyone is in the box for the last ten minutes. It's a mess.

The words were " We're set up to fail ".
Yes, @Fanny Fanackapan, it is one of my RD theories. Numerous observers have said that the generation of tax losses to offset against the substantial profits of his serious companies is what mainly lays behind the hurried creation of his expanded network, and a failing football club can quickly chalk up a nice meaty deficit. (Of the other potential CAFC money-spinners, the Sparrows Lane star factory project is at a standstill and the class of 16/17 will doubtless be smashed out in the January fire sale, and the EPL lottery ticket that goes with the Championship is now just a fond and distant memory.)
For someone who "doesn't do failure", just examine where RD's clubs stand tonight :
CAFC 18/24 after relegation STVV 13/16 FC Carl Zeiss Jena 1/18 (boo !!) Ujpest 6/12 Alcorcon 15/22
Why is CAFC run by the amateurs KM and Mowgli, talented only in unstinting self-promotion, whereas his serious businesses are allowed to have proper grown-ups in charge? If lightweights are such a good idea, let (for example) Melexis' successful SMT come over here, and our clever dilettantes can turn their impressive skills to show the electronics industry how it's done. I'm sure the widget makers would be every bit as grateful as we are.
It's clear that Mr D has not the slightest affection for or interest in football. Why a man about to reach his allotted three score years and ten wants 1.5% of his empire to give him such disproportionate irritation and ingratitude is therefore very hard to understand. Is failure really the new success in the unfathomable world of our visionary leader ?
@ricky_otto OK, we've had the Ajose/Novak dream partnership. Want Magennis back now?
For 1 game....
As for Magennis - not particularly no.
Forwards are only as good as the midfield service.
Magennis scoring 15 goals for a poor side, coupled with Ajose's return last season suggests they should be able to get 25 between them for us in division 3/4.

Last season NA scored 24, LN 16 and JM 12. This season they have 5 between them.
Slade managed to turn goalscorers in to duds in the space of 2 months.

You must sit in the East too. I saw both the Crofts wrong pass and the lack of bodies from Fox's cross. Magennis was still 15 yards outside the area when that came in!
We played good against Wimbledon for 75 minutes. Did well at Sunny. Played ok but not badly at Oxford. The league games before then we done ok in most of them apart from Bury. So we have been off the boil in the last 2 at home. So we haven't been play playing bad all the time. We have enough quality in the squad to pull away. Maybe not challenge the top 6 though but enough to pull away from the bottom 4. Performances will iprove again.
So we've gone from a top 6 budget and expected promotion challenge, to "we have enough to pull away from the bottom 4".
In my opinion, Slade is deliberately playing the tactics which will get himself sacked and collect the lump sum due to him from the early termination of his contract.
Whilst he may not be the best of managers, too many posters on here are regularly questioning his playing tactics offering the blindingly obvious alternatives we can all see. Surely this is not down to Slade's naivety after his many years of experience in the game and with some degree of success, albeit not spectacular.
I think he now knows the full picture of how toxic the hierarchy is at the club and he will be forever powerless to manage a successful team under it. At this early stage, he should be given the benefit of the doubt by other clubs for another appointment as everybody in the game knows what a disaster the Belgians have been.
I can only guess at the soulless lack of support he would get from Meire whilst trying to do the job and working daily under such an atmosphere would cause many to reassess their situation.
If I am right, I hope you get your package soon Sladey so we can progress with another appointment as soon as possible only to inevitably repeat the whole familiar process once again a few months down the line.
The scary thing is that it could be true, because it is not like failure at Charlton in current circumstances will reflect as badly on him as at it would at any other club.

I do not have much sympathy if he has been shat on by the Belgians, he must have known the score before he signed a contract.
However, I do agree with your post and the cynic in me says that he thought he'd possibly get an early sacking safe in the knowledge he has a three year contract behind him.

Agreed. Anybody who takes the Charlton job under the current owner must know it's going to be a short term thing. Offering him a 3 year deal was madness. He must have been rubbing his hands.

Same are Tiexiera, Polish Pete et al.
I reckon Slade would fall iver if given a decent enough shove.
