Would like to see Aribo on the bench instead of one of the attackers. Especially if Botaka is not fit. Can cover out wide (I'd rather him there than Jacko) and offers something different in midfield.

    Surprise 1-3 win
  • Port Vale have a pretty poor defensive record so far this season and were trounced on Saturday. They don't draw many. Surely, surely, the logical thing to do is set up as Saturday, Ajose for Novak, attack early and try and put them on the back foot. Do that and I can see us winning 2-0//3-1, which will set us up nicely for Saturday (where we should do the same, given Gillinghams defensive record). Play 451 with Foley back to try and be solid and nick a late goal and we'll probably lose. Should be interesting.

Wasn't feeling too confident for this one.
But then Ricky Otto told me that Elfsborg is buying the beers at Gillingham on Saturday and now I'm full of confidence.
    2 .1 Charlton

  • 2-0 Charlton. Our season finally gets going as Ajose comes back into the side at the expense of Novak to grab a surprise brace.

Agreed, we need to show some attitude from the start, not park the bus and hope for a win. Port Vale are clearly vulnerable at the back, we need to exploit this

As Tex has travelled pehaps he will go 3-5-2. Maybe a bit too adventures for Slade though.

Whatever happens, I hope we don't go there and pack the midfield in the hope of scraping a point, as that approach usually backfires. Nor, so far as I am aware, are we targeting mid-table anonymity (at least officially).

Having won only 2 of our first 7 league games at the Valley, we really do need to pick up some wins on the road - or at least have a real go at teams.

I'm 99% sure that's what he''ll do. He was itching to do it on Saturday at home, having obviously learnt nothing from the Wimbledon game. It was only a timely 2nd goal from a mistake imo that prevented him getting egg on his face

    Port Farewell 2 Charlton 1.

We'll be a goal up and cruising , only to concede 2 late goals.

That's right do you think, Len?

    ;o)

I fear that you and @SDAddick are right, Cabbles. Trying to shut up shop against a bottom of the table team at home (especially one with such a weak defence) doesn't suggest that Russell is about to loosen the shackles.

Who would be the wing backs? Chicken maybe on the left but Solly would struggle on the right.

If Tex has travelled, it'll probably be because there's an injury concern over either Bauer or Pearce.
  • Vale have 15 points from a possible 18 at home this season so a point here would be acceptable.

Chicksie/Lennon and Foley? Put Lookman up front.

I think this could go one of 3 ways.

Port Vale don't generally do draws and we generally draw.

I'm absolutely certain, that I haven't a scooby on what will happen.
  • 2 - 1 to Port Vale. Slade learns as many lessons as his masters.

You just might be one of the 200 that in years to come can say I was there that cold and wet night when we won 6.0 at port vale.

    Or maybe not

Fair play to you and the other loyal travelling fans. Hope the team reward you with a decent effort at the very least
