Bobby Vee RIP

Singer of some great, unpretentious pop songs like Rubber Ball, Take Good Care of My Baby, The Night Has A Thousand Eyes. He had suffered from Alzheimers for a while. A short while back Bob Dylan - whose first professional engagement was playing piano in Vee's band for a few weeks - sang Susie Baby in tribute to him at a show where Vee was in the audience.

I met him at a gig in Tunbridge Wells when he was playing in a double bill with The Crickets who were great friends and colleagues of his and he had famously taken over on the 1959 Winter Party Tour after Buddy Holly was killed. He was modest and charming and still singing superbly. He signed a cassette for me and did me the honour of singing my request, Staying In, which had the hilarious couplet and outrageous rhyme of:
"He was saying things that were not true about her
So I let him have it in the cafeteria"!10 -

RIP I thought he'd be a lot older, but he started out when he was 15 in 1959. I grew up on his music0

Another horrible disease and a merciful release for him. R.I.P. Bobby0

I used to do my own Top 10 each week when I was about 9 or 10 years old. The night has a thousand eyes was one of my number ones if I remember correctly.
Thanks, Bobby. RIP.0 -

One of the first records I bought....Rubber Ball.....oh what memories.
Played it a thousand times sitting in Mum and Dads lounge in Catford, on my light blue Dansette!
I was 13.
RIP BOBBY......RIP.3 -
I always assumed that 'Rubber Ball' was a Goffin/King composition .. in fact it was written by the late & great Gene Pitney0
