Caught the last 10 of the Scotland/Australia game. Scots with a 6 point lead and Aussies a man down. What could go wrong??

Thought the crowd were pretty poor, with no respect for the kicker as Australia converted for a winning point.

Scotland kept it alive for 4 minutes over the 80, but couldn't get close enough for a drop and Aussies kept him their cool to avoid a pen, until the ball went loose and out.

No different at Twickenham today, whole of stadium booing the Argie kicker, not that it made any difference.

I don't like this trend of punishing players for shit refereeeing, and rugby referees at the international level is dogshit at the moment. So many poor or wrong decisions being made today and in the last few weeks, can't remember the last time officials were this incompetent.
You're not wrong. The officials have been pathetic this afternoon.

Case in point: All Blacks second try vs Ireland last week. The crowd erupted when the replay showed a green arm under the ball, preventing it from being grounded properly. The referee even seemed confused himself, but the video guy gave it as a try?!

I was out for The Undertones gig after watching this last week, so hadn't listed about it. Still fuming. TMO said he saw a definite grounding...would have been nice if he'd actually shown it to us!!

Also not convinced about their 3rd try. Best was right to ask ref to look at it for a forward pass. Ref was pompous to refuse.

All that said, that was a brilliant, bruising game by what I think are the two best teams in the world just now.
  • I actually thought the ref was ok in the England game. The only one that really could have been different was the high tackle against May(?) which could and probably should have been yellow.

Very impressive from England today, be annoying if oz end the unbeaten run. Vunipola will be a huge miss for that game.

Not to mention the number of high tackles the all blacks put out, it was a case of win at all costs to make up for the defeat in the US.

Agree completely about the quality of the game @TelMc32 - but the All Blacks did seem to play with something to prove after the Chicago result as @guinnessaddick points out! A very rough game, and plenty of fight in both sides.

Result and decisions aside, it was quite an enjoyable watch!
  • Strange rule that how a player lands makes the difference between a red and fuck all. Unless there's a deliberate effort to chuck someone on the ground neck first, the angle of impact is surely down to luck?
  • Brilliant kick from Paddy Jackson there. Ireland have lost so many key players, both before & during this game, that it's a great effort to still be toe to toe with the Aussies.
  • A long 11 minutes for both teams.

Get in!! Brilliant turnover by O'Mahoney & definite yellow for that lift tackle on Toner!! Come on Ireland!

  • Thought Ireland would run out of steam, especially with the changes in the team in the game, great victory for the boys in Green. Shoulder to Shoulder.
  • What a brilliant last scrum. Some effort after a bruising battle. Superb end of season for Ireland.

Aussies should be disappointed with their first half performance, but I thought Ireland should have made more of the possession they had then. Lost some brilliant players in recent years, but Ireland just seem to be getting better & stronger and have some good depth too.
  • Ireland celebrating like they won the World Cup before the final kick had been taken was pretty silly. The myth that the Southern Hemisphere teams are titans to be overcome is sad. Australia could be beaten by any of the Home Nations currently.
  • rare occurrence at Twickenham, two players sent off .. Daley's was inexcusable, how long has he been playing the game ? .. good win by England with 14 for almost the whole game .. bring on the Ozzies so we can claim a four timer .. Can't speak too highly of Jones, the man is a master tactician and a peerless man manager

What has happened to South Africa .. their performances over the past year or so would surely have Father Mandela spinning in his grave

Although it is a very poor Aus team they've beaten Scotland and smashed Wales recently so don't think they can be beaten by any home nation. Was at the game today, Ireland should have has the game won by half time, they were far better team, try just before half time galvanised the Aussies.

I watched the Scotland game and felt their defeat was down to a mixture of poor luck and poor refereeing. As before, this Aussie side is hardly insurmountable and Ireland's 79th minute celebrating was just silly and poor sportsmanship.

The poor sportsmanship was the 2nd Southern Hemisphere team in two weeks using tip & high tackles as a supposedly legitimate game plan.

Just watched it, strong display by England, enjoy the way they can now adapt to in-game circumstances.

Regardless, I played rugby for 11 years, never did I witness players running around hugging each other and high fiving before the final whistle. By all means celebrate once the match is over but it's essentially a friendly, no need for that nonsense.
  • What a terrific game, great win

  • England had 20 mins in the 2nd half where nobody would have been able to contain them.

    Great game.
  • Can we play last years world cup again now please?
  • Jones now has the problem that every manager loves (or hates ?) .. that is .. who to leave out, especially amongst the forwards .. he could pick two totally different packs and the difference in performance would be negligible .. not even NZ has that strength in depth

He has Lincs no doubt. No way can he leave Itoje out when he's back fit. Haskell is another one who was playing out of his skin before the injury as well.

And of course Vunipola was missing as well today.

    Real strength in depth.

Indeed ...the six nations will be something to look forward to.
  • We've had some brilliant players for years, they've been hamstrung by Lancaster sadly. If you watch any premiership rugby union you will see how many amazingly talented English players are about

The new bonus point rules should make it even more interesting. Yes, England are clearly the best team in it but Ireland and Wales are both up for a rumble and Scotland and Italy both had a decent Autumn. I think after the abject humiliation of the Northern Hemisphere at WC2015 has led to all the teams buckling down and sorting themselves out. Should be a really good show.
  • Quite amazing that if ...if ...England win all their six nations games again, they equal the Kiwi's record of all-time consecutive wins.

4 wins against aus and grand slam is great. But don't feel as legit without a win against all blacks. I'm greedy.
  • Great performance again, and luckily(?) in the pub they had CAFC v MK on the screen next to the rugby.
