So, you appoint a caretaker manager but add a permanant coach that the new manager might not want (he most likely won't have heard of him!). Beyond parody.
I'm sure Chris will be seen as a spy for Meire and Duchatelet by the rest of the camp even if he is a nice guy and a good coach.
Nugent will be supported by Simon Clark and Chris O’Loughlin, a new addition to the club’s coaching staff who, contrary to reports, will not become the club’s new Manager
O’Loughlin has previously worked as an Assistant Coach at Orlando Pirates and Melbourne Victory and also had stints as Head Coach at Congolese club AS Vitaand Sint-Truiden.
so they have shoe horned O'Loughlin in and any new manager will be forced to work with at least him if not Nugent and Clark too. Good luck with finding someone to agree to that.
I've missed having one of Roland's lackeys around on the coaching staff.
On what basis has he been given this job? We've already got Nugent, Clark, Euell and potentially Jackson around. When we're apparently struggling to put poppies on shirts, or play our best centre back on the basis that they cost too much, why have we suddenly got enough money to be paying an extra coach for? And if we do think another coach might be the difference to our season, what chance that the best one available just happens to be Chris O'Loughlin?
Oh yeah, because he's already on Roland's payroll and has been fishing around for a coaching role with us for a while.
I'm sure he was in line to be manager until Katrien wailed down the phone to Roland to get him to change his mind.
New era? Changed our approach? Learned our lessons?
Also what was the point of getting rid of Slade on Monday afternoon only for his assistant (who he wanted) to take the reins three days later? It suggests to me that the board made an impromptu decision without any contingency plan or forward thinking which I simply cannot believe........
But those protests were simply without reason and they are not out of their depth etc etc......
I think uncle Roland couldn't wait to fire Russ so that he could appoint CO'L who was obviously getting bored. Maybe Slade was pissing the old fart off with his need for control over first team affairs.
Who else would hire a member of the first team coaching staff as soon as they fire the manager?
"The club will make no further comment until a new manager has been appointed."
Today's Statement
"Charlton Athletic Assistant Manager Kevin Nugent will take on the role of Caretaker Manager until a permanent replacement for Russell Slade is appointed"
Is this supposed to be, like, good news? A positive development?
I hear Simon is a good bloke for some reason, but Kevin, Chris and Simon you are now the new face of the regime for however long.
You are going into this with your eyes open guys, and Simon Clark, Kevin Foley, Chris O'Loughlin, Tony Keohane, Brian Cole, Sue Parkes, Katrien Meire, Roland Duchatelet and others are now all peas in the same pod.
Right now the names I have mentioned are all people who basically hate and despise me as a fan, and there is only one way to soften my antipathy and that is to win, win without expecting any thanks for doing do as well.
We have no Josh and Ricky, and Port Vale, Bristol Rovers and Sheffield United are coming up. The minimum requirement from that is nine fecking points and no excuses.
'...Chris O’Loughlin, a new addition to the club’s coaching staff who, contrary to reports, will not become the club’s new Manager.'
1. Interesting that the author of this report is 'cafc,co.uk' and not George or Olly. has it come from RD himself? That sentence alone sounds very much like an angry Duchatelet.
2.It needs to go on a CARD banner.
3.COL will be the new manager when they either say they searched high and low and interviewed 20+ candidates in 24 hours but realised COL is the right man after all, or he'll be The Interim One Volume Two by the end of the season.
So after much searching and meeting many excellent candidates we offered the managers position to Chris O'Loughlin. He has managed at a very high level and has also been part of the coaching set up here at Charlton.
I read this that they are going to give Nugent a few games to prove himself - if we do well they will remove the "caretaker" tag. If we don't they will sack him too and move O'Loughlin up to Manager status.
I also heard that he is being given a "pay as you coach" contract. Which is a major cost saving as we are closed for coaching on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and non match Saturdays.

What is the motivation here? Bizarre.

Can't wait for that improved ranking.

They have made another mistake which they will no doubt tell us next season when we start off our League 4 campaign with a top 6 bugie.
Statement for Monday...
Nothing has changed.
Nothing will change.
This is classic Duchatelet and Meire.
