Kettering Town's chairman's statement

My local club in addition to Rushden. The attached statement makes for some very interesting reading and contrasts the way players and clubs are run in the lower leagues. This guy is one of Britain's wealthier people and sees The Poppies as a way to get involved with a sleeping giant. Many of you may recall the FA cup game against them

  • there are are ways of doing things and there are ways of not. Unfortnately in football you can't be that honest, it will get you nowhere.

This is the chairman that gave the job and an inflated salary for that level to Gazza. He has made mistakes, probably has the best intentions, but will keep making mistakes. Getting ahead in business can be very different to getting ahead in football, and too many people learn that the hard way. He will be the latest.
  • Spot on AFKA, business and pleasure don't mix. Apparently only 5 players have a definite contract for next season so there will be a lot of comings and goings during the pre-season. With crowds of 1200+ and the potential for 4000+ they have a huge potential but what is 'huge' when you come out of the conference? Wigan and Wimbledon show that it can be done but they have hardly hit dizzy heights consistently
  • the thing is with Kettering, they can take up to 8,000 away.

But the home club will always have 8,001 :-)
