Not odd but mainly invention of necessity. Really fancied a bacon sarnie but we had no bread. We did have croissants though, so I baked the croissant whilst cooking the bacon then cut the croissant in half and stuck the bacon in, never would have guessed how great it tasted. Probably awful for the arteries though.
Have done similar, but with hot cross buns. Surprisingly tasty in a good way.
After nearly half a lifetime as a vegetarian the weird thing about the sandwich I sometimes crave is that I still crave it. Open a tin of salmon and remove the biggest bits of bones. Lightly mash the rest with balsamic vinegar and ground black pepper. Place on ultra fresh ultra soft white bread spread with slightly salted proper butter, add some freshly washed clean and dry leaves of proper round lettuce. Never again in my conscious life will I eat such a sandwich, but oh what a treat in my money short family growing up. I didn't know how poor my family were until the other boys at my Grammar school laughed at the lunch sandwiches my mother made for me, water sandwiches.

And for those who want to know what it tastes like, it's a bit like swan.
