not quite the 'principled' MP as many have said, he was up well past his neck in the expenses 'scandal' .. but a shrewd man who kept the Tories on their toes .. RIP
I may not have agreed with all of his political stances, but he was a politician who thought about what his view would be, rather than let others decide for him (whether it be the media, focus groups, etc.) - which may well be a dying art.
Less prominent in recent years than he might have been.
agree with all of the above a thoroughly decent and principled politician who became less fashionable under Blair as he was probably too decent and principled
may he rest in peace
forthcoming election for his seat may create a few problems for Labour though

Pretty safe Labour seat. Corbyn will be gone if they lose this one.
Met Gerald Kaufman a few times when he was Eric Varley's no 2 at the Dept of Industry. Very bright man. Shame he never got the Cabinet position he deserved.

Anyway, sad to hear of the passing of Kaufman.
Very sharp wit and master of the waspish remark.
RIP and great respect to his memory

Not just Labour's loss.
