Does anyone in Wales care about St David's day? I don't get the impression that many people in Scotland are bothered about St Andrew's day either.

Yep. That's what happens when a day is suborned for political purposes.

FWIW I am half Welsh, half Scot and my partner is Irish. Apart from sport I feel more of an affinity to them than England.

  • Good programme about St David with Ian Hislop on R4 today: sounded an absolute fruitcake - vegan, naturally - and all round despot.
He used to stand naked in a stream self-flagellating for hours on end; insisted his monks pulled ploughs rather than use draught animals and ate only bread salt and herbs.
Sounds right up your street, ianment...

  • It means whipping yourself as a religious discipline.
