A bit of a shame for Turkey in some ways, but with the country under Erdogan suffering massive financial problems, it's questionable whether it would be right financially for them anyway.
And after Putin's WC, the though of Erdogan glorying in this is rather off-putting too
Find it interesting that Istanbul wasnt put forward as a Candidate host for Euro 2020
Might have been a good idea to do so... Host a couple of games, prove they can do it without trouble and they can have their own competition in the future!!

Turkey was one of the few countries to bid to host the whole tournament in 2020. I suspect they weren't inclined to apply to host a couple of matches after being snubbed for the whole tournament despite a lack of interest from elsewhere.
Perhaps it we actually bidded more often we would actually get to host a tournament more than one every 50 years - the likes of france, Germany Mexico and USA seem to put a bid in at every rotation so it's no wonder they get tournaments more often than us.
as much as it is good to have the tournament they often end up costing money and the state of the uk atm we have better things to be spending money on.

Such as paying for West Ham's stadium following the last major tournament this country hosted.
Germany have had ‘way more than their fair share’ of major football tournaments over the last 50 years or so. Too many IMHO.
In terms of their Euros record for bidding (as per @Manicmania's post)
- Euro '88 as West Germany and Euro '24 as Germany - They put in bids for Euro 80 and Euro 84 yet didnt get either
In terms of the World Cup
- 2006 and 1974 were held by Germany (the latter as West Germany) - They then put in bids for the 1966 and 1938 World Cups
On the other hand England have only ever put in failed bids for Euro 80 and then the 2006 / 2018 World Cups so yes you could say we should be bidding more if we want to host... Note both England and Germany put in bids for the 1990 and 1998 World Cups yet both withdrew (West Germany did the same for the 1962 competition); England of course withdrew from the 1998 bidding process so they could get the UEFA backing for Euro '96

Had a great time, this is a great choice.
