Surprise for his 16th birthday. I managed to keep him a Charlton fan until he was 10....

Now he'll be fawning over Ibrahimovic. Maybe Ademola will get a run out.

God I might end up so depressed about the state of Charlton that I'll top myself....

Unbelievable mate. Im doing the very same with my boy who's ten! I've put it off for as long as I can.
Going up with a gooner mate and his son who's united. Read in to that what you will. :-)

Thank Goodness he opted for a nice local team and didn't latch on to a successful team with loads of plastic hangers-on and glory hunters.........
Could never allow my boy to support another London club. That's too much. United is far enough away for him to give up and come back to the valley when all is good again.
    That's my twisted theory anyway!
  • Have a great night. Old Trafford is a fantastic stadium and despite us always losing when I've been I've really enjoyed going.

I'm bringing my son, to his only game this season, tonight. £99 season ticket for one game. I'm only bringing him so that he can show his respect to PC Palmer. He only agreed to come if I allowed him to take his iPad and headphones and watch TV while the football is on.

Frankly, right now, I would rip your hand off if you told me that he wanted to be a Man Utd fan as I can't see him ever being interested in Football after the debacle of RD and KM. They even play in red and white!
  • "Tragic" story on so many levels.

I've been waiting for you to comment on this one Perry :-)
  • Hope Man Utd get stuffed and it pisses it down.

    A draw would be nice.
  • thankfully I think I've brainwashed my kids enough that whilst they 'like' some prem teams, Charlton are their team and they only wear CAFC or England kits....

as it's school holidays they are allowed to come tonight
  • I should add i that probably would've dragged him along to the valley had I not already booked these tickets to pay our respects to PC Palmer.
  • I’d been to the Valley a few times in 1964, but as a special treat my Dad took me to White Hart Lane to see Spurs v Man U. I was an admirer of Jimmy Greaves. Long story short, it was a fabulous game and Jimmy obligingly scored. I left the ground wanting more, but I had already been indoctrinated and I wanted it for Charlton at the Valley. I only had to wait 34 years for that dream to come true.

The moral of the story is, ‘Good things come to those who wait’ … but jeez it can be bloody painful.

  • Man U 0-1 Everton
  • If my son supported Man U i'd disown him - he certainly wouldnt get me taking him there.
Thank god my 3 boys all support Charlton - as they should do.
  • One of my mates moved to north London and was resigned to his boy becoming and Arsenal fan. A theory I still don't understand.
Not least because it goes against that father and son at the footy tradition but more confusing as at Charlton we have a duty almost to keep it in the family.
The big clubs will always have fans coming and going, it's different for us though, we have always been a small, family club. With the Belgians in charge we are still a small, family club, but one with a rapidly decreasing fanbase with no other avenues of gaining new fans.
  • Great ground as it always was. Daly Blind is stealing a living. Feilaini is terrible. Zlatan and Lukaku scare centre halves. This Utd midfield aren't fit to lace the last midfield I watched us here as Scholes, Keane, Sheringham and Beckham tore us another one that day.

I reckon Man U could go through a long spell like Liverpool have. Who ever manages them or plays for them has a lot to live up to from Sir Alex Ferguson did. Tough job for any manager.

    Do we GAF!
Based on what I've read about how my team played tonight, is there actually any point in going into the ground anymore? Pay your respects outside the ground and go home. The club is a pointless waste of time and energy, so I'd rather see a smile on my son's face than watch that utter shit for 90 minutes I'm afraid.

And going out of your way to make sure we all know about it.
I couldn't give a rats arse about Old Trafford....Man Utd....or Manchester full stop or hearing about you and your son pissing off to fucking Manchester on a Man Utd jolly-up....I'm an Addick and this is an Addick forum!
  • This is a general football thread. But thanks for reminding me where I am. I'm seriously as pissed off as anybody with the shit that we are being served up by the current board, manager and team. I just chose not to spend any more money supporting something that is embarrassing and beyond support.

So you decided to give your money to Man Utd instead.....oh the irony!

  • So bad. my boy said "can we go back to the valley next week Dad"

    :-)
  • They have no choice , we don't like anyone else , we hate millwall and palace but we really really really hate roland and co

that is the law in my Essex household for my 4 young sons

although I need roly to fuck off soon cos the state of the old kits the younger ones are wearing are a disgrace , if i didn't know better i'd think they were peeling the sponsor and Charlton badges off themselves
  • I'm hoping the mere presence of Agent @supaclive in their ground for 90 mins will have completely finished the charltonisation process that José Mourinho has seemingly so deftly started.

Nah - they had a choice.

My boy has come along with me to a few games. He is 8 - shows utterly no interest when he is there and is bored as fuck. Shit football on the pitch, poisonous atmosphere in the stand. Somehow I don't think my legacy as a Dad will come from dragging him down to this current shit pit.

Kids can make their own choices. If he turned around and said he wanted to go and see another football team cos his friends will be down there - I would take him along cos that's what being a Dad is all about. It's a job that's about doing stuff for your child, not you. I wouldn't stand up and cheer for the other team.... But would have a smile on my face if my boy was enjoying himself.

I'm not a Dad, but all I know is I have a lot of friends who support teams because if they didn't they "would have been thrown out of the house". Most of them had Dads who were armchair. Interesting psychology at work here somewhere?
