The Takeover Thread - Duchatelet Finally Sells (Jan 2020)

Airman Brown said:I think it’s fair to say RD was always sceptical about the Aussies - he made that clear - but even if they might have been useful to him, the idea that he or people working for him planted the stories about them is laughable. Apart from anything else Gerard Murphy spoke directly to journalists on multiple occasions to my knowledge, so did Keith Harris. There were numerous process leaks that didn’t come from The Valley or anyone with an interest in putting out lines for RD.
The fact they never went away - and indeed appeared to get close to a deal - was down to GM, who was fronting a shifting consortium of investors. Andrew Muir was his credible constant.
Whether GM would have delivered a stable ownership is an open question, but the fact RD has alienated a string of substantial potential buyers really removes it as an issue of interest. Ultimately none of the people who have wanted to buy the club have been able to get RD to co-operate with a deal.
Sooner or later he will probably find himself surveying the wreckage of what Bowyer has created and telling anyone who will listen that the latest failure is done to disloyalty, supporters, the EFL or possibly Brexit. In fact, it will be all his own work.

A big thank you to Mr happyvalley for his astonishing dedication to keeping up with the change of pages and researching all those historical facts. I actually enjoyed the pre-1905 ones the most as the footballing ones were usually no surprise. Can we close down this thread and start again as I'm a bit weak on the years 1AD -1905?

Greatest thread of all time.
Drain on our servers, the productivity of our users and society in general. You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.Love and Peace and Roland out!
And we can know that we WERE there when this miracle of creation came to be.Maybe a bit over the top, but be fair, some of those fish puns were world class2 -

Can't say which source supplied the info, but apparently RD was impossible to deal with, and they've had enough.
- an actual deal was put to Roland in recent months which he has rejected?
- what the high level details of that deal were?0 -
2021: Roland starts a 5 year process that culminates in the purchase of a new pair of shoes in 2026.16

The whole takeover saga defies any logic mainly because it’s based on minuscule amounts of information and massive amounts of speculation - at least the regurgitation loop seems to have ceased - for now2

I hope he wont duck his responsibilities.
He could end up with a very large bill.3 -

I think it all comes done to the valuation which only ever made sense for accountancy purposes and never related to a realistic sale value. Sadly the owner is too dumb/stubborn to realise this.At the same time I have a hunch that the Aussies were always speculative buyers and couldn’t put an effective consortium together but clung on hoping RD would get desperate.
The worry is that their ‘interest’ reinforced the first point.2 -

NO. Rekindle what football interests?2 -
Okay Mr Owner, so you've failed at selling the club. Not a biggie - you've tasted failure before. However, out of the jaws of defeat comes the opportunity for a victory even you can't possibly have seen coming. You could literally double your money by letting the Manager know today that you will back him to the tune of £50 million in January to get the club promoted, and to build a squad with a chance of staying in the Prem.
This is a once-off opportunity that I'm sure someone with your Trump-like wisdom will seize.
Or, you could simply take that £50 million and divide it up between your 50 biggest critics on here and we'll stop saying nasty things about you.
The choice is yours.5 -
Valley27000 said:Henry a question for you ,how can Sunderland get a £10m investment but the people behind it don't get any shares in the club?.
Some dreamer loaned an orange cnut croydon football poser smthn like £20M for a period of time. Slimey is on record as saying he expected the lender just to roll it over at the end of the term, cos they had no way of paying it back, they'd blown it on transfers and wages etc. That lender insisted the terms of the loan were observed which ultimately led to new owners in the shithouse board room.
There's no guarantee shares will be worth anything at any point in the future, in 3rd division football it's near enough guaranteed they're permanently worthless. Shares might convey some influence over board decisions but that's all.
A loan can be secured (e.g a mortgage or debenture in companies) against company assets to protect the lender in the event of business failure.
Company debentures should be recorded with Companies House so that interested parties can look these things up when researching a company's financial health. Cos business people do that sort of research when punting 8 digit sums on acquisitions, don't they? No? eh?
Loans can have any sorts of condition attached e.g. 'lender to be consulted if company is to move premises', or 'repayable on regaining PL status' or any other cloud cuckoo idea...

Dont think it even needs that sort of money. Realistically we probably only need another 2 or 3 players. Another striker - either Toney or someone to replace Leko & cover for Cullen if he goes back to W Ham & cover at left back.

£6-8m tops. Gallen is a superhero & knows where the talent is.
Trouble is you spend £6-8m on a couple of decent players, you have to pay them well. Then Taylor wants the same or more; other players want more; clubs loaning you players want a fee. Suddenly your £6-8m is £15m and you turnover is only £13m a year and you are back to losing money hand over fist. Championship footy is broken. Badly.9 -
