The Takeover Thread - Duchatelet Finally Sells (Jan 2020)

We as a society are far less racist than we were even 15 or 20 years ago. I was shocked to meet some openly racist people at ITN when I joined in 1977. There were cameramen who called black people 'sooties' and so on. And if you pulled them up on it they'd say they were only kidding, don't take it so seriously etc etc.SoundAsa£ said:
Thanks for clarifying that Seth.....I in no way whatsoever meant any offence to anyone.seth plum said:My comment this time was born of weariness not offence, although there are offensive remarks made from time to time.
Are we so unimaginative and lacking in curiosity that certain things lead to a kind of auto response? If there are going to be references to people from the Orient, I would invite folk to be rather more creative and imaginative and informed in their 'banter'.
Christ you have to be so bloody careful nowadays, some people get so touchy.
I don’t know why I should be surprised but I absolutely hate it when people on the very odd occasion pull me up for a joke....it’s only a very serious step away from falling into the category of being labelled a racialist, which to my way of thinking just isn’t the case.
Learn to laugh at one another is my take and give back as good as you get....which I think I’m right in saying is the view of most people from my immediate post war generation.
It's not funny and people shouldn't need to learn to laugh it off, or to give it back. Why should they? It's stupid, and a waste of everyone's time. The new breed of cameramen are far less likely to be like that, so perhaps it is a generational thing.9 -
It may be a generational thing, but it's also a locality thing. Some of the words I hear to describe people of different nationalities, I haven't heard since the 1980's or before. I find it all extremely uncomfortable if I'm honest and I've never been afraid to pull them on it, but often you can tell that they don't really get what they've done wrong.JamesSeed said:

You should stop whinging Seth. I don’t get upset about people making jokes on here about the Irish being pissheads. :-)

Duchatelet probably does not know where we are in the league and how the play-offs work.clb74 said:With us in the play offs places though and I do believe we will make them is Roland really going to sell the club unless he gets near what his thinking if he is.
I'd keep hold of konsa if we don't make the play offs he goes in the summer.
Would also give KR the money to buy a decent forward and if it goes tits up sell players in thE s
Ps, don't forget my Wembley ticket.1 -

Very surprised such a prolific poster and garner of likes and lols has so few promotes.
How many relegations have you suffered?2 -
Okay so I've (seemingly wisely) skipped a few pages. Has there been anything substantive since "ooh we think it might be mid-Feb"?0
-
Just looked. You have 1 promote and 11 flags for abuse!Henry Irving said:

You need to take a long hard look at yourself Henry, you're going wrong somewhere!2 -
Now we've had it confirmed that there is possibly something in the offing should we have a 'lite' version of this thread where only Admin can comment & update any developments?PaddyP17 said:Okay so I've (seemingly wisely) skipped a few pages. Would save a hell of a lot of time on wading through the chaff.0 -
Oh, it’s all gone quiet over here, oh, it’s all gone quiet over here, oh it’s all gone quiet, all gone quiet, oh it’s all gone quiet over here...sideways!1

Thanks for the chaff.carly burn said:

I had a lot more promotes but the vindictive admin took them away as I refuse to kow-tow to them. Even this 1m plus thread gets no promote. Yet, sing the the praises of the "elite" and you get one automatically.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

All the so called abuse flags are from trolls and snowflakes so not bothered about them.

I just asked 10 Chinese girls in my office if they can cook and they all said no, so drop the pigeonholing, guys. Thanks3

Those that manage this forum, with, may I add, nothing but fairness and even handedness whilst still demonstrating robust controls with those who quite obviously step out of line, deserve nothing but the highest praise and our full support.
The constant sniping from certain long standing posters who constantly nag about lack of recognition from their somewhat numerous posts of dubious quality, should actually look at themselves and the way they construct and deliver their 'information' as to why they register significantly more 'flags' than 'promotes'.
The fact that anybody who disagrees are either a 'troll' or a 'snowflake' clearly shows a lack of understanding of other poster's deeply held views and opinions and supports the decisions made by the 'elite' in continuing to ignore such pleas for recognition.
After all, I don't believe the OP of "New bird on Countdown" has mentioned once that they have not been 'promoted' for their fascinating and entertaining post.23 -

Like I do with various posters on here, I take the piss out of @SoundAsa£ on a constant basis.N01R4M said:@SoundAsa£ , I'm sure you are not a bad person, but you do appear to lack empathy.
I wonder if you would still find it funny if you had been the butt of the same stereotypical sexist / racist / nationalist / religious / sizeist or ageist jokes on a daily basis and twice on Sundays? It is one of the curses of social media that we now cannot even escape this drip, drip, drip of unwelcome comments in our own homes unless we become social hermits. Most of the time people do just shrug their shoulders at this kind of behaviour, but if we are guilty of stepping on someone's corns, and it is pointed out, I think it behoves us to just apologise and try to avoid repeating the offence.
None of them have felt the need to be offended by my, frankly hilarious observations. All of them give it back in spades.
I do enjoy posting a continual negative narrative about the French, but that is (mostly) tongue in cheek and does get a few bites now and again - though I though that @ShootersHillGuru should have realised that by now
To be fair most people are aware of Seth's family ties and do respect his position, but none of this is aimed directly at his family and none of it is meant with any kind of malice, of that I'm 100% certain.
how dare you come out with something so "birdist"i_b_b_o_r_g said:I just asked 10 Chinese girls in my office if they can cook and they all said no, so drop the pigeonholing, guys. Thanks
