Newcastle united billionaire buy out.Charlton next ?

edited May 2007 in General Charlton
Yet another Premier league club has succumbed to being bought out by a billionaire.Seems to plenty of these guys about? Newcastle united will probably be bought out by mike ashley, the club is valued at a conserveative 140-155 million Sir John Hall has already sold his controlling stake. Mike ashley the buyer follows England but only because he has various sports sponsorships, not a fan of Newcastle united,Steve Morgan a Liverpool fan this week bought Wolves for a tenner with an agreed investment of 30 mill, what if some multi millionaire dood wanted to buy Charlton and doesn't support Charlton but has loads of money? In the present day PREMIER league must compete climate would this be a step forward or a step backward for OUR club?

For a start, he's only put an offer in:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6684573.stm
Billionaire businessman Mike Ashley has launched a £133.1m ($263m) offer for Newcastle United football club.

The offer came after the retail entrepreneur said he had bought a 41.6% stake in the Premiership team from Sir John Hall's family for more than £55m.

Secondly, buying Newcastle is a very different proposition from us lot. 50,000 seats filled each week in a one-club city? A club with massive potential that's been woefully run for at least a decade? If you've a billion to spare, that's an ideal place to park it.

We're a much smaller club owned by fans - yes, fans who've had their fingers burnt recently - but they're still fans. Newcastle's an extension of Fat Freddy's ego (or another body part that's probably a bit smaller).

Our lot wouldn't move unless they were sure it was a good thing. You can't compare our board with Newcastle's.

Exclusive: Governor of Bermuda in CAFC takeover bid.

Supreme President LookOut is to inject 80% of Bermuda's GNP into South London club Charlton Athletic following his recent coup that ousted the previous government. He said:

"Sod education, education, education - the real lessons in life are taught following the highs and lows of a proper football club."
