Why oh why does the Russian state feel so insecure that it has to prove to its own citizens that it is the best at everything to the point of state sponsored cheating.

It just makes them out for what they are.

Ban all Russian sportsmen for ten years.

The choices for the next two world cup hosts are looking better and better. Well done FIFA

    100% this

2018 we can all go and get our heads kicked in after one of their officials endorsed violence among football fans as 'it's just what they do'

2022 we can admire plasticity at its best and celebrate Beyoncé giving us a song at the World Cup final whilst remembering that migrant nobodies died building the stadium they play it in

So here's to violence and migrant deaths - hooray for FIFA
Least 2026 should be a good year for FIFA to regain some credibility with Mexico | USA | Canada coming together to host which should be an easy decision to get the FBI off their backs

2030 will be a free for all again though, especially when ASEAN (see below link) wins!!

Not to mention the World Rankings are as follows for each

    Philippines (126) | Thailand (127) | Vietnam (131) | Malaysia (155) | Singapore (157)
    Myanmar (163) | Laos (172) | Cambodia (174) | Indonesia (175) | Brunei (188)

They'd all get spanked at the World Cup Finals seeing that none of them (other than Thailand this campaign) have got close to the World Cup... Qatar in five years is going to be a perfect example of how pitiful the host country will be at actually playing the game compared to the other Nations that Qualify - Thankfully there have a been a lot of "bids" over the years that dont actually go anywhere.

All you have to do is point to the Spanish doctor/Barcelona blood samples a few years ago.

That was a major scandal that was swept under the carpet sharpish.

Having been to most of the countries on that list, I can confirm it'd be a f****** disaster.

Laos can't even manage proper roads, let alone hosting a tournament.

South East Asia is, in my opinion, the most beautiful part of the world. It is not exactly big on infrastructure though....

Qatar finished bottom of their group in the Asian Cup here in 2015 and were pretty dire even against mediocre opposition.

I think that one of our posters @QatarNapsy may be able to give more guidance on how they are planning to be more competitive at the World Cup but hard to see anything other that absolute spankings unless they somehow get a 'favourable' draw.....

Since the '18 and '22 world cups have been announced, I've always felt like Russia got off easy in terms of scrutiny. For starters, football isn't huge in Russia. But obviously beyond that, it's a country led by an autocrat of terrible human rights abuses. Obviously FIFA weren't to know this at the time (though I doubt it would have stopped them), but right now gay men are being sent to concentration camps in Chechnya. And there is of course killing dissidents and opposition leaders, all of which admittedly has gotten *worse* in the years since the World Cup was awarded, but is not unique to that time frame.

It's one of the many things FIFA has to be ashamed of.

Interesting enough 2 weeks ago FIFA president was in China, China have offered to host the 2022 WC should tensions in the gulf escalate.
Weirdly enough the next day China largest shipping company stopped all shipments to Qatar.

FIFA and the IAAF are great examples of why any idea of world government is a bad idea. They are not the exception but the norm.

How can it be that anyone has allowed a world governing body for football? What an awful idea. Countries can come to an agreement on basics such as rules and the like without needing some corrupt global organization answerable to nobody with their own anthem.

Yep, its something i've been involved with out here for the past 6 years, so feel fairly qualified to comment on it.

There's been a huge focus on youth football over the past 5 years or so which was put in place by the QFA here with a view to 2022 and 2026 world cups. It involved placing the elite academy boys into professional clubs in Europe to train, live and study on short term placements (1 month to a season), something i was and still am actively involved in.

Slowly but surely the standard of youth football has improved to the point where Qatar won the 2016 U19 AFC tournament (equivalent to age group Euro champs) for the first time. Also, last month a schoolboy squad won an invitational tournament, beating Germany in the final, so theres talent coming through

That U19 group is now together as the olympic/U23 squad, and have been involved in the senior national team. Results in world cup qualifiers have not been great, but improved last time out with a 3-2 win over South Korea. Obviously the progression of this group is key for their 2022 aspirations.
