Friday Nostalgia Picture of the Valley

This photo has come to light from what we believe is the summer of 1985.
Kids who lived on Floyd Rd, one of whom posted the pic on twitter, helped pick stones from the Valley pitch under the guidance of Maurice Banham.
You can see clearly the black panel on the covered end roof. It was a different colour as the original was damaged by a German bomb in WW2

Why were they removing stones that summer? It's not as if stones build up over the season!0
