They're also a bright bunch of guys, I wonder if there's a connection...
Although I didn't find your post to be particularly xenophobic in this instance (which is unusual!). The Emirate states are using football as a tool to help improve the perception of their lands (they're hoping we don't think about the ill-effects of Sharia law when we're marveling at Neymar in a 'Fly Emirates' shirt), as they look to a long-term future post-oil. They don't particularly care about football, they certainly don't care about the long-term economic harm they might be causing the sport, and certainly don't care about affecting the pyramid structure that we get to enjoy.
Sheikh Mansour, who basically owns Abu Dhabi, has at least done a lot of good for Manchester, set up a world class academy and I believe has had a positive impact in the community as a result, so it's not all bad.
But I believe he, along with the others, will eventually change the structure of the current footballing league set-up, and that's why I wish they'd fuck off.
so basically i make a good point, but im racist cheers i suppose.
And to top it off... PSG are going to avoid FFP because Neymar will sign a £200m commercial deal out in Qatar which technically means that it'll be HIM rather than the CLUB paying the crazy fee!!
Not sure this is true. If Qatar pay him that then surely he has to declare it as an income and pay 50% tax on it? Although admittedly footballers aren't too clever at paying their taxes!!
That may be the tax rate here but is that the tax rate in Qatar?
He doesn't live in Qatar though, so won't he pay tax based on him living/working in Paris?
Not difficult to get around though.
You set up Neymar Public Appearances Ltd in Qatar They charge the Qatari owners of PSG £200million for misc services, maybe a public appearance by Neymar Neymar is paid an appearance fee for some press party in Qatar, say £2million, by NPA Limited NPA Limited pay Barcelona £198 million to free him from his contract Neymar signs for PSG on a "free transfer" NPA have made 0 profits, no tax there Neymar has made £2million for working an evening in Qatar, possibly no tax there, minimal if there is any Transfer is all paid in full, nobody's paid any tax and it's all technically legal and above board
But if it's that simple to get around then why aren't the likes of Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour or any other multi billionaire owner doing the same and building super teams with £100m+ players in every position
Well it's not quite that simple, my example is simplified to give a rough idea.
It also requires the player in question have have a buy-out clause, and the footballing authorities in all three countries involved to play ball (excuse the pun). As has been mentioned in this thread, La Liga aren't happy and I imagine you'll see a rule brought in a some stage soon to say players can only move to clubs, not to, or via, a third party.
Also, if a prem team tried such a deal I imagine there'd be a lot more attack from the press/media and fans that there will be at PSG.
Lastly, the UK's tighter financial laws may see this as money-laundering. It's almost certainly not (though it could be seen as tax avoidance), would any football club in the UK risk the possible fraud and tax investigations?

It's more complicated than that, as Qatar are very much the outcasts of the Arab world, with sanctions against them from the other states. This transfer is also a signal of intent by Qatar to Saudi and the UAE that they won't be bowed.

Dunno why but this reminded me of;
Listen to this one then; you open a company called the Arse Tickler's Faggot Fan Club. You take an advert in the back page of some gay mag, advertising the latest in arse-intruding dildos, sell it a bit with, er... I dunno, "does what no other dildo can do until now", latest and greatest in sexual technology. Guaranteed results or money back, all that bollocks. These dills cost twenty-five each; a snip for all the pleasure they are going to give the recipients. They send a cheque to the company name, nothing offensive, er, Bobbie's Bits or something, for twenty-five. You put these in the bank for two weeks and let them clear. Now this is the clever bit. Then you send back the cheques for twenty-five pounds from the real company name, Arse Tickler's Faggot Fan Club, saying sorry, we couldn't get the supply from America, they have sold out. Now you see how many of the people cash those cheques; not a single soul, because who wants his bank manager to know he tickles arses when he is not paying in cheques!
That's the exact plot of a Roald Dahl story called 'The Bookseller'

If I was a Barca fan I'd be happy with this. Means they are now free to sign Dembele and Dybala/Coutinho.
Losing your second best player and signing a player about 2 levels below in quality wouldn't make me a happy fan. Not that they have a choice with the release clause being met.
They're already behind Real Madrid and this will push Barcelona further behind. They desperately need to rebuild their midfield.
Crazy money, Football has officially gone nuts. FIFA need to grow a pair and set a transfer cap and stricter rules, there seem to be loopholes galore at the moment.

Dybala is a top top player, can play up top or as a number 10, and is left footed so can play out wide too. Dembele has come on in leaps and bounds at Dortmund last season, and both are young players who will only improve

Surely selling one of their three world class attackers for 200m is a step in the right direction to doing that?

Depends if they choose to rebuild or waste it all on a luxury player like Dybala that will offer nothing that Neymar didn't already do better.

Neither of them are close to Neymar's ability at present. Neymar when playing for Brazil is up there with Messi and Ronaldo.
The problem is with Neymar doubling the world record fee Juve can easily slap a £150m tag on Dybala. Sadly all this will do is massively inflate an already utterly bonkers market

But they already have Suarez and Messi, who are stronger than Benzema and Bale. Having Dembele as part of that front 3 and buying another midfielder will strengthen them long term. Neymar is world class yes, but not selling him means they don't have 200m to spend strengthening the midfield

Agreed. If they can go and get Coutinho for 85m, Verratti for 80m and a defender to cover for Pique/Umtiti for 25-30m then i'd say they'd be a much stronger team as a result.
Obviously a lot of people will remember him for the PSG comeback game where he was ridiculous but for a lot of last season Neymar wasn't great. Only scored 13 goals in the league which considering they hammer teams every week is a poor return for a player of his stature. 200m is a stupid fee and whilst they won't admit it, i'm sure the Barca board are delighted.

Roald Dahl didn't just write kids books. Never heard of Tales of the Unexpected? His short stories (published in anthologies over the years) are pretty good. The plot of The Bookseller (from memory) is that a bloke ran a bookshop in Charing Cross Road, from whence he and his partner in crime (his 'secretary') would scour the obituaries for notices of deaths of important, upper-class people with serious reputations to uphold, then send the widow an unpaid bill for various rare books they had procured for them - including titles that hinted at things like bestiality, S&M and other (considered at the time) outrageous pornography - with the widow being so embarrassed that they paid up without questioning the bill. Cracking twist at the end

There was a BBC radio dramatisation of that with, I think, Timothy Spall. Was very good.

But they already have Suarez and Messi, who are stronger than Benzema and Bale.
Conveniently glossing over Real also having probably the best player in the world right now.
As in play wide on the left where Neymar plays.
Bale on the right is worse than Messi Benzema through the middle is worse than Suarez
Ronaldo is better than Neymar already, so other than Barca signing Ronaldo I'm not sure how they can do anything about that? The point is they have a weak midfield compared to Madrid and therefore are better off overall if they sell Neymar and use the money wisely. However this could be a moot point if Madrid sell Bale to Manure and sign Mbappe
Even Bournemouth are spending ridiculous money for players £20m. A lot for a club like thta or is that just the gamble you have to take now? If we were Premier League now would we be spending money like that as well?

Yes, if were an established premier league team (think Stoke) then we'd have one of those heated car seat benches, LED ad boards everywhere, a new Jimmy Seed Stand with at least one corner filled in, and a plethora of multi-million pound signings to watch, all playing under a European head coach, in a 4-3-3 formation
Everyone saying this is a world record fee is forgetting about the many "undisclosed" fees Roland has been paying. Who's to say some of our players haven't cost that eh?

Personally i think that if Barca don't make some top class younger signings then they could well get left behind by Real for the next 2-3 years. Barca have a great first XI but no real strength in depth whereas Madrid have been signing top class talent like Vallejo, Hernandez, Ceballos to go alongside the likes of Isco, Varane, Carvajal, Asensio and Llorente. If they get Mbappe as well they pretty much have the nucleus of their side sorted for the next 7-8 years. Barca are the opposite with most of their top class players around 30 years old or older.
