After finally getting what's becoming a decent looking squad then to possibly get rid of watt and konsa then these silly tossers in charge haven learnt a thing.5

Neither Watt nor Konsa are first choice players, both are nice to have around but far less important than Holmes, Magennis or PearceNicholas said:After finally getting what's becoming a decent looking squad then to possibly get rid of watt and konsa then these silly tossers in charge haven learnt a thing.

Time for KR to lay his cards on the table, "if Konsa goes, I go". Not because Konsa will play every game and is an indispensable player at this stage , but because of the psychological damage it will do to the fan base and probably the rest of the squad. Optimism has been improving precisely because, just for once, we haven't sold off our best players and have improved the depth of the squad. Konsa going would indicate that nothing has really changed, we still cannot trust them an inch.
KR holds the upper hand here, and they would be in a real mess if he walked just as it appears things were finally coming together. They risk, even smaller crowds, problems recruiting another decent manager, and the club as a whole moving even further backwards, if KR were to walk. This is their last chance to attempt to redeem themselves.2 -

But the way KR talks it seems he must be on a percentage of any transfers of our young players , he is like a salesman1

He won't walk. Imo he is Katriens pet and mouthpiece.1 -
We don't know that about Konsa, for me I'd have him alongside Pearce as our first choice CBs.killerandflash said:

Not bothered about Watt myself if we can bring in a good replacement. The fact that he's gone from being a key player in the Championship to a squad player in League 1 just shows how he's declined.2 -

He's a defender so we won't be getting Lookman money. A closer benchmark is probably Gomez - what did we get for him ? Halve it and you've got what Konsa is worth.SDAddick said:Credit to @Airman Brown who said last week that there is a £3.5million bid on the table for Konsa. It seems the club value him more highly, which I think is correct.
But I think what Robinson says about a bid coming in that's "over our valuation of a player" is true, and it's not unique to the RD era. Now, most of that "valuation" has been far lower than it should. But we're in League One. It's to our credit that we continue to churn out such good young players as Ade and Konsa, but at our level, in the modern era, it's incredibly hard, if not impossible, to keep hold of good, young English players.
As there's absolutely no chance of any fee being re-invested in the squad - I'm not falling for that one again - I would prefer we don't sell him regardless of the offer.1 -
Incorrect, we'd loan him out to St TruidenElfsborgAddick said:9 -
Agree with the general sentiment here but regardless of the Roly fiasco, we are a middle ranking third division side with a member of England's World Cup winning under whatever number it was team. It would be ridiculous to assume that Konsa won't be attracting attention. That's different from actively punting him around but there's no evidence that's happening other than Karl's verbal diahorrea0

The issue isn't with selling players, I think every Charlton fan understands that always has and probably always will be our place.SDAddick said:Credit to @Airman Brown who said last week that there is a £3.5million bid on the table for Konsa. The issue is that Duchatelet stated from day one that we wouldn't sell our best players at the first offer. That hasn't happened.
There's also the big question around where the money goes from these sales. The club has received £20m+ from player sales in the last 18 months - two years and yet we're still scrambling around trying to find a cheap goalkeeper again this summer and the squad is still incomplete.3 -
I would say Konsa is first choice.killerandflash said:

I have no problem with selling when it is a financial imperative or to reinvest in the squad. I do have a problem that it is policy to sell off our best prospects at the price of ambition.4 -
I don't buy this 'know you place' philosophy. History tells us we are a middle ranking Championship club. If we act like we are a middle ranking league 1 club then that's the best we will be. Where's the ambition? Under Parkinson we scrounged around free transfers because we were on the verge of administration. Now we are owned by a man who can't be far off from being a billionaire and as we are no longer his main team are back to scrounging around on a limited budget.3

The only mentions of Konsa going (other than on CL) have come from direct interviews with Bowyer and now Robinson. Not seen any other speculation.
Almost as if they know they have to sell him to cover the costs of the deals already done.
But you are correct in that no surprise he is attracting attention or that Charlton under any ownership would consider selling, like most clubs. There just doesn't seem much reluctance to do so under this lot.
But as someone said I fully expect him to stay until January when they will hope for a better price.2 -
Exactly. We're only a middle-ranking League 1 team because they put us here.johnny73 said:I don't buy this 'know you place' philosophy. History tells us we are a middle ranking Championship club. We should believe and behave like we want to be better than that.. otherwise what's the point?5 -
Can't argue with any of that, what's annoying is you know where the money will go....75%+ to Strapix and if's his lucky 25% to KR's transfer kitty.SDAddick said:Credit to @Airman Brown who said last week that there is a £3.5million bid on the table for Konsa. KR on Holmes.
“I wanted to keep Ricky but we had to prove the club was matching the size of his ambition,” said Robinson. “Everyone speaks about Charlton being a big club – but you have got to act like one.

To my certain knowledge Konsa has been watched by an Everton scout more or less every time he has played for the last 18 months. Including at U23.
The issues are varied in my view.
Firstly we should keep him, and in my view play him ( he is easily good enough).
It would benefit Konsa to play and would enhance his value anyway. Secondly if he is to go then 3.5 million is too little. Staprix loan us £50 million so that threatening debt needs to be reduced, the Premier League has a lot of money and the very minimum we should get right ñow is £6 million with shedloads of add ons. In January it should be more.
If he is to leave then it has to be now in order to spend on other players, which begs the Lookman type question about how much of the fee is allowed to Robinson. If Konsa goes with no time to recruit it is a huge negative signal.
The training ground has been paid for many times over already with the sales of academy products under this regime, if Konsa is to go and Robinson gets 5% of the fee to play with, it indicates that this regime is ploughing on with their results don't matter/player farm strategy.
Duchatelet ought to try to keep Konsa and also give Robinson (from Staprix) more to spend. If Konsa goes then Robinson should get all the money straight away.3 -
Konsa is first choice with Pearce in my opinion.3

Not a lot to get worked up in that story in my opinion lots of if and buts0

What's Ezri's position in all of this ? I'm sure his agent will be very excited that Premier League clubs are showing an interest and I can't believe Ezri isn't very happy with the prospect of quadrupling (? At least) his wages.
I think once this scenario occurs it's very difficult for any club outside the top half of the PL to hang onto a player. Sure the club can hold off the initial interest to hike up the price but once the genie is out of the bottle it's not going back in.
You can blame the club all you like but I don't think there's anything that any club can do once a players head has been turned.
What I do blame the club for though is having this exact scenario as their raison d'etra with little or no ambition for anything else. For me as a supporter that is unforgivable.3 -
I agree. The Lookman money was not beneficial to the team in the conventional sense. Mitigating losses and the never ending training ground story can be argued of course, but a huge part of those losses come from Roland Duchatelet and Katrien Meire not having a clue, dressed up as knowing what they're doing.ShootersHillGuru said:What's Ezri's position in all of this ? If Konsa leaves in the same circumstances as all of the other academy sales then it indicates to me that the regime simply hasn't changed in its fundamentals.5 -

1) History doesn't matter all that much in football these days. Bournemouth, Brighton, and Huddersfield are in the Prem. Leeds and Notts Forest haven't been there in years. Manchester City are one of the biggest clubs in the world. We live in strange times.johnny73 said:I don't buy this 'know you place' philosophy. 2) Even for a mid-table Championship club it is very hard to hold on to young, talented English players because the money and talent pools at the top. I think there is a danger in acting like we're a bigger club than League One because that's where we are. But even if we do, I still think we'd be forced to sell our best young English players at some point.
3) To the point that a couple people made, absolutely I agree it's frustrating that we don't know where the money goes, that it doesn't go back into the squad, that RD is incredibly rich and doesn't need this money in theory, that the money we've gotten for Gomez, Cousins, JBG, etc. is far below what they're worth, and that they have put us in this situation. All true.1 -
But we need a full squad not just an 11. That's been our problem for 3 years. They are key to our squad and can only be allowed to leave if we have a replacement lined up. Otherwise we say no.killerandflash said:

The Lookman bid last summer was @ £3-6M and we turned them down and sold for £11M in January.
We got an unbeliveable fee for Fox.
We've turned down £3.5M for Konsa from Everton.
The money goes to reduce the accruing debt, as with every other club.
There are untold negatives about the regime, but this is nowhere near top of the list.4
