    As above, my understanding was in law blue badge only entitles on street parking, private land there is no 'rights' as such although it is recommended that spaces are provided but up to the land owner how they do or do not charge.

    Southend seem to confirm that is still applicable in their borough and free of charge regardless of where you live;

    Whatever you do, don't go to Brighton. Went last week, parked a 10 minute walk away from the seafront and they emptied my wallet of £30 for the privilege!

    Brighton's parking scheme is criminal. I actively avoid going there if possible because there is literally nowhere to park for less than the price of a good meal in London, and I know what I'd enjoy more. I'm not sure why people seem to love going there so much, it's one of the tackiest places in the South.

  • Waverley Council in Surrey are going to start charging Blue Badge Holders for parking in the car parks. The justification from the Council is that it is preferred to the alternative option considered of charging everyone for Sunday or overnight parking. There are 5 disabled bays at our local car park so at £1 an hour 8.30 am to 6.30 pm that's going to net them no more than £50 a day. If they charged for Sundays for everyone it would at a guess net them £300 a day and significantly more if a 24 hour charge period - bizarre.

    People in wheelchairs can't actually get up the kerb to get to the ticket machines , the Council response is that they can apply for a special permit.

    Disabled Blue Badge holders now pay to park in all parking bays in Waverley's car parks. However the charges will not be enforced until after the relevant Equality Impact Assessments have taken place.

    Motorists parking in a disabled bay should also still display their Blue Badge. The maximum stay for a disabled bay is three hours.

    Free parking permits are available for disabled residents on a range of qualifying benefits. To qualify for a free parking permit you must be a Waverley resident.

    The permit entitles disabled motorists to park for free when displaying both their Blue Badge and permit; face up in the front windscreen.
