I am astonished to see Peru are currently ranked 10th in the world.
Just behind Chile in 9th.

Is there any need for this ridiculous organisation's unbelievable world ranking table, or is it a massive waste of time?

HUGE waste of time... the fact that some Nations are getting away with being higher in the rankings because they dont play Friendlies proves what a joke it is.
Surely your ranking should be effected if you dont play games, not bloody protected3 -
A nonsense.0

Italy go ABOVE England after their stunning success in the playoffs...1 -
Not worth the paper it's written on.0

If it looks bollox, reads bollox then it usually is bollox. FIFA are bollox, so there is the final clue for me not give a flying fuck about them or their rankings...0

Serbia ranked 37th - won their group.... the 3 teams that finished below them are all higher
Wales - 19th
Austria - 29th
Republic of Ireland - 32nd
What a complete and utter farce0 -
Dont forget that Italy drew with Sweden in a World Cup Qualifierkillerandflash said:http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42092693

We drew twice with Germany and Brazil yet are only friendlies
Based on the very complicated calculations used to determine the rankings, a World Cup Qualifer (x2.5) is worth more in points than a Friendly (x1) so its not as much of a surprise really...

As has been discussed here, England suffer through playing top sides as the opponent strength multiplier formula is (200 - ranking position)/100ForeverAddickted said:

You play Germany, this is (200-2)/100 = 1.98
You play Ireland, this is (200-32)/100 = 1.68
Therefore only a small drop in the multiplier, for a game which is much easier to win, and thus gain 3 points for a win rather than 1 for the draw

Why should we care what England’s ranking is as long as we win the competitive matches that qualify us for tournaments. That’s the only ranking that matters. Doing better when we get to those tournaments is the ultimate ranking but by the time of the knock out stages it then becomes a lottery to a large extent anyway. Ranking countries that don’t qualify highly is just an embarrassment for them.1
