Or he could have just said "we've got our Christmas Party after the Portsmouth game, we ideally didn't want it that weekend because of the significance yet with the fixture backlog its the only date we can really do"
That way people wont be so annoyed with the video coming out of no where and being a complete surprise
As on a side note I thought the fancy dress from Solly | Holmes | Lennon was brilliant and would love to see what others did

Or, in reality, Karl Robinson only realised what a bad idea posting this stuff on social media was after he saw the backlash and will take action.
I'm not surprised Robinson didn't lay down the law before the event (don't wear club colours, don't act like muppets on public transport and - above all else - don't film yourselves doing both of those things and upload the video to social media) but I thought Jackson had the brains to get that.
let's hope the trip has bonded them together enough to win on Saturday and go on another unbeaten run.....people will soon forget about this if it does.
to be fair to Robinson there's not much more he can say and I'd be amazed if he didn't say prior to it - keep it off social media lads etc.
Out of every dark cloud there is a silver lining and could give KR an extra bit of leverage in his pre match address to the players along the lines of;
'I've had to take some unnecessary sh*t in the local press because of what you posted on social media, consider yourselves all bollocked and no repetition. Now you owe me big time so go out there and get me and the fans 3 points'
Look if anyone’s feels disgusted , or outraged that the players have gone on a Christmas beano just before one of our biggest games of the season I’m sure you could make your feelings known by writing a strong letter to our ceo, I’m sure you’ll get a reply.

Dear Customer,
I do agree with you it is outrageous that the players are on the piss without inviting me. There is no need for concern though, as although KR doesn't have a plan 'B' I certainly do. I know how to gatecrash poignant events and fully intend to get the next flight to Newcastle via Dubai ASAP.
I hope hearing of this clever plan of mine brings a little joy in to your sad lives. However you all need to remember the club isn't about customers and anyone within the club can do what they like because Uncle Roly owns it.

I agree that's the way to deal with it nothing further. Despite the right and wrongs of it, we have to move on now and take advantage of any team spirit created as a result.
I don’t know - in his 8 games he has managed to be sent off after 6 mins and off injured after 30 mins in 2 of the games I think he deserves a 6 year contract and and 100% pay rise.

Big question, who was Trigger?
Lewis Page I’d imagine
Alan Pardew should have gone along and been Dirty Barry.

Spot on. Really like KR and want his team to succeed. Good results are antidotes to many issues

Let's hope it gets better results than the similar team talks Trevor Bayliss will be doing in Australia!

The players owe Karl nothing - they owe the fans. Karl had say in their piss up, I understand fixture congestion but it was the biggest fixture of the year for us (the fans), they knowingly risked it in the hope they'd get the result then could celebrate out on the piss. We got outdone and now it all looks very silly.
As stupid as the players are for posting things after the loss - it's a stupid time and a place to do it. Very unprofessional but at the very least keep it from the public eye, get changed from your Charlton clobber etc..
It is what it is, and they need a win sooner rather than later to push this all into the past.

We beg to differ on one issue then, KR has explained the background to why last weekend was chosen for the players Xmas bash and becsuse he went along with it will be a bit miffed it has now put him on the spot. There sems to be a good bond between the players and management team and in an 'all for one, one for all' group you don't let your colleagues down, especially the governor. They did, so IMO they owe him.
ideally we want the players playing well because they want to play well, not because they've copped a bollocking from kr, either way get 9-12 points of our next 5 and ill be over the moon.
got interesting games coming up from auto contenders to teams near the wrong end of the table.

Great response, except I’m surprised it wasn’t finished with Merry Christmas vinegar ######s
Surprisingly, I was more annoyed by this than I thought I would be. Well, disappointed rather than annoyed. And this is coming from someone that places high value on the benefits of team bonding. These are my reasons,
- Quite simply this was our club’s most important fixture in the 17/18 calendar. So much so that the club had asked the EFL for this fixture for this date. Huge emphasis was being put on it, it should have been the players (without doubt the most important people on Saturday) SOLE focus for that day. - If you ask any ex pro, they will tell you that in the run up to these away joliies, it dominates everything. The banter, talk about outfits, organising the whip or challenges, room shares, travel details, what VIP bookings where etc. This would have been the talk of the dressing room in the days leading up to Saturday, no doubt about it and I’m pretty sure the thing the players were most thinking about / looking forward to when they woke up Saturday morning. - With trains already booked so soon after the game, what would have been on the players’ minds if the ko had been delayed half hour by crowd congestion? Are they thinking about the game or clock watching and getting anxious? - It was clearly a quick shower and out the door. What if the manager wanted to bring up a few things after the game? Even if he did, none of them would have been concentrating and just thinking hurry up. - Why pretty much the furthest point in the country? I’m not up on my sports science but recovery is apparently meant to be key and we are being told last week that the EFL has to change and the fixture list is a joke. 4hrs sitting on a train there, a day or so of boozing and then a 4rh train back isn’t telling me you are looking after your body in the best way at a crucial point in the season. We live in the biggest city / nightclub network in the country where they easily could have had a discreet solid night out without the agg of traipsing the whole length of the country. End of Season is for away jollies. - The manager when ever an opportunity presents itself will give tub-thumping speeches about providing the right platform for players, and in turn players representing the people, giving 110% for the cause, being professional and representing yourselves in right way etc. Flooding social media with what looks like cup winning celebrations 2hrs after a real disappointing defeat in a big game was going to do nothing but wind people up
Perhaps I am being miserable, so please feel free to disagree / pick holes with any of those points
I agree with all that AFKA, all I would add is that these young men can't be (and probably shouldn't be) trusted to make the correct decisions. Lewis Page, who posted this was, from memory, sent off within ten minutes of his debut, and based on some of his other posts, it's clear that if he weren't a professional footballer he would most likely not be earning a living using his brain. It doesn't bode well for Jackson (who I am a massive fan of) in terms of his intention to get into Management if he is going to be involved in this sort of behavior as part of the Management team now. The night out is not in question but the unsociable behavior on the train (isn't alcohol banned on trains now) is not something anyone in management should be doing with his subordinates, in public, displaying the employers brand on their clothing.
What should have happened is a set of 'guidelines' should have been issued. From what I've seen of Robinson he probably just said something like don't do anything stupid. On the basis that the young footballers can't be relied upon to know the difference they should have been given better instruction. As Robinson can't be trusted to do it he should have been given the 'guidelines' and told to ensure that the players adhered to them. Those 'guidelines' should have come from above.
Thus, the buck stops with Miere or Keohane, or both. I've been quite outspoken about blaming them for everything as I'm not sure that it's fair, or appropriate, but this is, definitely, at their door. I suspect that if England players had been shouting off on a train getting tanked up, wearing their England kits, they would found themselves facing a disrepute charge from the FA. Look at the two week media coverage Rooney had for going to a wedding and drinking in his England tracksuit. It wasn't hard or complicated, just change clothes and keep the noise down a little, and show some respect for other train users.
Having said all that, I can't tell if the train has the general public on it and if the club booked as a private carriage then that changes everything I've written, even, to a small degree, the Social media post.
This was their pre booked Xmas do, win, lose or draw. Do we really expect them to sit quietly in their seats and be all depressed and reflective? Sackcloth and ashes? I wouldn't want that. If they start getting too down it won't help us win the next game. As for physical recovery, you may have a point there. A two day drinking jolly is hardly going to help the body recover, although sitting around being miserable is hardly good recovery for the mind.
Also worth bearing in mind they might have been playing up to the camera on the train. They may have been more subdued on the rest of the journey.
just as a counter-point to the knicker twisting over the players Xmas do here's another tweet that will, I will predict, get a fraction of the comments or reaction to the OP

Footballers seem to use the train a surprising amount. The Stoke fans were held back from getting off at Stoke station to allow the players off first!
