Some years ago I was driving down the M1 about 2 am and stopped at a service station for petrol. Cheggers was in there chatting to the staff and signing stuff. I got the impression he'd been working somewhere that night and was on his way home, there was another bloke with him who kept looking at his watch and obviously wanted to leave, but he happily kept chatting and joking to the staff and customers. Seemed like a normal bloke who appreciated the public speaking to him.
