Puncheon charged with assault

A Premier League footballer has been charged with assault and having a weapon after a fight erupted in the street near a nightclub.

Jason Puncheon was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning and taken into custody after officers were called to the disturbance in Church Street, Reigate, Surrey Police said.

The 31-year-old Crystal Palace midfielder had reportedly been partying with friends at the nearby Mishiko nightclub beforehand.

A police spokesman said: “Jason Puncheon, 31, of Kingswood, has been charged with a Section 4 public order offence – causing fear or provocation of violence, possession of an offensive weapon and common assault.”

According to The Sun, the nightclub issued a statement which said Puncheon attended the venue with friends but, after it had closed, door staff intervened in a fight in the street some 50 metres away and police were called.

A police spokesman confirmed officers attended an incident at 2.20am but would not disclose further details.

Puncheon was released on bail and is due to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on January 5.

Both Mishiko and Crystal Palace FC have been contacted for comment.

I love how it's been reported as an incident taken place in Surrey and being investigated by Surrey police.

I thought they were meant to be South London? The pride in fact.

What a role model for young children. Plus having a weapon. What is this modern day coming to. Let's go clubbing
    Wallet check
    Phone check
    Keys check
    Tool check
Long him up over Christmas and his accomplices. ( Zaha Bentenke Hodgson plus five other team mates who names I can't spell properly. This bit is a joke )

A few mates from Horley were there as Reigate is the only decent town around the area, the little man was puncheon with his belt buckle as a kind of knuckle duster.

Apparently he was being a complete bell even before he decided to throw punches.

    Reigate has a nightclub?

half decent in fairness but has a kind of mixed sweat and fishy smell by the end of the night :joy::weary::mask:

This is very near my house! I wish I was roaming the streets that night, I'd have driven up and down the High Street chanting anti-Palace songs.

    Charlton reject

He's a Sunday league reject! My lot played against him one Sunday morning a few years ago. He only scored three times!

    Reigate has a nightclub?

It used to be the Piano Bar, and Danny Murphy was a regular.

Did anyone else notice that the white bouncer in the first couple of frames is about 4 foot tall. I'm all for positive discrimination but wtf is he supposed to do when it all kicks off?

LOL I love seeing comments like this... It's the quiet little bouncers you should fear most. They do the job without having to be 6ft 4" and roided up...

Bouncers know how to make you hurt, know how to restrain you and know how to make it look like they're not using excessive force. Trust me on that or test it out for yourself!

Having met his mother once, when she came to our house as a friend of Mrs GA's work colleague for a party, I would say he gets it from her.
    She didn't stay long.

Dont know the full story but any celeb/sports people get shit constantly on a night out, i used to drink in the same pub as a current actress of eastenders and girls would call her a slag etc just whilst standing in a bar, some people think that because someone earns x amount they can just be abused with no repercussions.

edit; if he was being a piece then he should have the same punishment average joe would get.

It's a wonder he had time what with all those film premieres.
