The first half is up there with the worst I’ve ever seen. Defensively we were absolutely dreadful.
2nd half was better. Holmes and Reeves got us moving forwards.
Dijksteel at RB is suicide. Personally would have put Konsa RB and AD in centre mid after Kashi (who was appalling) went off.
Magennis, offers us nothing. Holmes is a greedy f@cker but is the only one who takes, the game to the oppo.
Robinson will say we were the better team in the 2nd half, and he would be right. What he won’t say is that Konsa and Sarr can’t play together and that he needs to stop with the 4-3-3 shit.
I walked out of the ground and actually didn’t give a shit about the result. I accept that we are crap and will continue to be so until ownership changes.
At least the Otto family were with you to keep the spirits up.
just in, the performance was not up to the required standard and as yet Karl you have failed to make a 'team we can all be proud of', (unless losing pitifully to a side of Southend's stature and forcing 1500 of us to be publically mocked by 13 year old coastal inbreds for 90 minutes counts).
Support the team not the regime is getting harder each week as they all morph into the total freak circus that is Charlton Athletic Football Club.
Being spared the sound of music and cold turkey was the only plus point of the day.
if we are still im mid negotiations NOTHING will happen re players in and out ----they are part of the assets ----and the Scouser is safe at least untill the negotiations are done (not saying he should get the spainish archer)
think it cant get worse remember its CAFC and know it can
Once again gloom and despondency on Charlton life after a defeat. I just don't get it, especially given that results went our way once again and we're still 13 points clear of the relegation spots tonight. I for one remain steadfastly confident that we can stay out of the bottom 4 this year.
Charlton were crap. Southend were only average at best. Made us look pony. Too many kids playing against men and a few of our men are just not good enough.
I am at a loss where to start really, and my thoughts are dominated by wider contexts.
The players were given yesterday off, and had their trumpeted Christmas do in Newcastle after the Portsmouth defeat under their belts. We have then had a series of injuries, and as a result a lot of team disruption, which of course leads to further disruption as players return.
Today we travelled in respectable numbers after a disappointing series of results to get behind our team in a vital game against a side we had already beaten this season, we wanted it.
Southend United wanted it in spades, squared.
With a couple of honourable exceptions the management, players and presumably the 'board' may have wanted it, but didn't really seem to give much of a damn.
It brought to mind that Shakespeare quote which I will adapt:
'if chance would have us win, then chance may deliver the three points without our stir.
Looking at the willingness of Southend, and previously Blackpool, Blackburn and Portsmouth to not leave things to chance but to work damn hard for what they got, I find it irritating in the extreme that the club are so louche and so detached from the desires of the fans and the demands of the sport.
It was mainly the youngsters and the home-growns who looked like they cared today. The rest looked like players waiting for somebody else to make it happen, the exceptions were KAG a 'Charltonised' youngster, and Ricky a player who seems to feel that it is all down to him.
I am really struggling for any positivity, but the club can prove me wrong in all my negativity by going to Wigan and bloody well winning.
I'm hoping that at 7am tomorrow morning Robinson is nowhere near the training ground but is half way up the M6 with his bags packed & in the car with him. He is a busted flush & if he's got a FIFA coaching badge then they must be easier to get than a gun in the USA. The guy doesn't know what Plan B is if he bumped into him in the street. If you ain't got the players then don't play the system. Play to your strengths (whatever they may be) We have no width so don't play it wide. Stick 2 up front & get the ball there as quickly as you can. As for the game itself...........
Can only think the players thought it was a 2 o'clock kick-off 'cause they sure weren't on the pitch before then. Shambolic 1st half but what do you expect with a back 4 whose average age is less than 21 - can't really blame Dijikstel as RB isn't his position & been thrown into the deep in without a rubber ring or a lifejacket. No leadership & midfield not helping by keep giving them the ball & expecting them to pass it out. Only players to come out with any credit were Holmes (MOTM) Reeves (and I'm his biggest critic) & again Da Silva. KAG ok & Lennon did well for his 45 mins. Magennis useless for 70 mins but then actually got his head to a few balls & chested a couple down but by then it was too late.
I said on a previous thread ( before the Pompey game ?) that we were playing poorly & that a defeat in that game could mean them catching us & seeing us "sliding down the league" Someone scoffed at me & although I'm known as a bit of a doom & gloom merchant I am sorry to say that I was proved right. We will not improve until Roland goes (of course) but before that Robinson does the decent thing & leaves forthwith. Yes, we've had lots of injuries to key players but its not the defeats that are hurting but the manner of the defeats. The players have no idea, no cohesion & every game are on the backfoot from the start. We need someone with a bit of nouse, who can change formations & not afraid of doing the simple things. Robinson wouldn't know tactics even if someone gave him a box of tictacs & told him to rearrange the words.
Not you Louis but this is a pile of steaming crap. I bet Southend, and 90% of all other clubs reported in yesterday, yes Christmas Day, to prepare. Robinson goes on about letting the players be human and such, but they have their Christmas do early precisely because they know Christmas is disrupted (unless you are, ahem, injured). So after all that fart arseing about and stuff, it now means a 7am start because players have taken advantage of the lax regime and let everybody down, quelle surprise.

In for 7am, in cold weather is that not just looking for someone to tweak their hamstring?
I'd be happier if they met later and he had prepared himself more.

I'm hoping the 7am start is so that they can sit through the a video of whole 90+7 mins (like us fans had to) & hear some home truths.
No point in doing any training - nothing new is being coached so whats the point.
Only one positive, we were so bad that when I went drinking with my Shrimper mates afterwards they didn't have the heart to take the piss. Instead they felt too sorry for me.
What was all that bollocks when Robinson took over about no player of mine will ever fail the shirt and they won't leave anything on this pitch, yawn, yawn. Scouse gobshite.
don't think Robbo helped himself by appointing two rookies with no experience of coaching as first team coach and assistant manager. Appoint one or the other and have an old head alongside you to listen to and bounce off.
Was a good day at the office for us. You looked good for about 25 mins of the second half and deservedly got back into the game.
I think one team just wanted it more than the other. On another day you may have got a point.
I wouldnt worry about us creeping up to that top 6. We will be selling our best player in January and I'm sure we will do what we for best and lose the next game against Shrewsbury.
Good luck for the rest of the season. I have a feeling we will be playing each other again next season.
Can we have Ricky Holmes. He was the best player on the pitch.

Thanks for your comments. You might as well have good luck for the rest of the season because we ain’t going anywhere.
All 3 of the goals we conceded will make you wince.
I was quite impressed with our goal though - lovely header down by Magennis in midfield, good driving run from Ricky before squaring across the box, and there's Magennis again to touch the ball back to Reeves, who with great composure passed the ball into the net.
The team goal celebrations were very muted - was that because of the halftime b*llocking or just that they don't much like Reeves?

A combination of wanting to get on with the game & being stunned that we actually managed to score away from home. That's the first league goal I've seen on my travels this season. 0-2 (Plymouth), 0-1 (Gillingham) & now 1-3. Add in the cup games (2-1 v Exeter & 1-3 v AFC Wimbledon) makes it F - 4, A - 11. Thanks Robinson for your attacking football. Now piss off.

Robinson has over 400 games under his belt as a manager. That should be more than enough games for him to have developed a plan b. MK Dons always said the same thing about him and he doesn't seem to have learned much in that respect at all.
I hang this severe drop in performance on KR more than RD.
KR got almost every player he asked for in the offseason. This is HIS bunch and he has been left alone by our awful owner to do his thing more than any manager since he bought this club.
RD out is always what we want, but this performance lately is mostly on KR.

How does he expect them to get there by 7am .... ?
Today they couldn't even turn up at 1 o'clock.
