I also think that not warning the player in this case is a little unfair. Yes, he may be technically out, but I can't see how dismissing him is within the spirit of the game. What a shame.
If he's out of his crease, he's out of his crease. How far do you want to back up by.....5 yards?? , 6 ?? , 8 ??. Does the wicket keeper warn the batsman before stumping him ?? There are 2 creases & they are both "live" when a ball is being bowled.
If its not "sportsmanlike" to mankad someone then its not "sportsmanlike" to back up outside of your crease to seek an advantage. You can't have one without the other.
I'm not so bothered about Mankading as the creases are there for a reason. Otherwise what's to stop the non striker standing next to the facing batsman when the ball is delivered!
