We haven't been winning matches because of our batting that's for sure. In fact our totals with a few exceptions, have been woeful. On one occasion only have we managed 250 in the first innings (in bold):

No batsman has scored 500 runs in the CC for us and there isn't a single Kent batsman in the top 35 of the averages for Division 2. Matt Henry's success with the ball has rather masked our inadequacies with the bat.
Success breeds success and I'm sure that, once one of ours starts to really fire, others will follow. But at the moment there is a shared relief when each looks around the dressing room that none are actually doing so on a consistent basis.0 -

He averages 24 in first class cricket from 63 innings, has scored 26 runs in his last 3 innings in the Kent League this season (including a golden on Saturday), has hit 63 runs in his last 4 innings for Kent in white ball cricket and made one 50 in his last 4 innings for the 2nd X1.0 -

Appreciate you know far more than me on the subject but it appears the county game is full of people like DBD. Play for England U19s etc, find it quite easy, then struggle against men?
Some people like Root and Cook, for example, look not only England candidates, but "Hall of fame" players at a young age. I have lost count of the number of young players that ripped it up, to end up as County journeymen at a relatively young age.
Is the gap between u19 and first class cricket too big? The second division is relatively poor. It also appears that future England regulars are earmarked at such a young age and have to sink or swim. Those that sink tend not to be stand out first class players after they are discarded. Finn is a good recent example of this.
I am rambling now, my main point being that's not a Kent problem but a cricket English cricket one?
Okay seriously I do think there is a problem with players making the step up but with the right setup it is possible.
Our squad is nearly 3/4 from our academy and the current crop of teenagers who all played youth cricket and 2nd team cricket for surrey all seem to be making the step up and some are making it seem very easy. So it is possible for a county to buck the trend.3 -

Rubbish performance
Concerned about the pitch for this match, which clearly offered a lot to the seamers - with uncontested tosses, prepare a lively pitch and you'll get put in.
Poor for Canterbury week too, businesses would have planned for at least 3 days of cricket. The CAMRA beer tent for a start will have a lot left over I imagine0 -

This was supposed to be Canterbury Cricket week! I had a good crowd due down tomorrow as we do every year. The main attraction being the excellent beer tent set up by the local CAMRA group which is always brilliantly managed. So a lot of people who have taken a day off work now find themselves at a loose end. County cricket from a spectators point of view is nothing but a joke.2

In the sense that we have been on a winning run then it was a surprise. On the basis, however, that our bowling (and in the main a now missing Matt Henry) has been our strength, then it wasn't.
