Although I apparently should do at my age according to Jeremy Vine, I know nothing of The Fall's music. I won't say I've never heard of them as I think I have. So "massive fan" Vine has just played Totally Wired. I don't think I've missed much if this is one of their great songs.

    The Fall aren't for everyone.
    And nor should they be.
All this eulogising and hand-wringing will have MES laughing his cock off, rarely has one person enjoyed himself so much cos so many people completely miss the point.
Ahh the old emperors clothes excuse for awful 'music'.
I knew nothing of the Fall (fool) so checked it/him out, the band appear to be tight but he just comes across as a complete bellend, yeah you'll say that was his point, but really anyone can be a dick, that Glastonbury set in 2015 was turgid, he had even pissed himself before he went on, and no I don't believe that he spilt a drink on himself......righto!
However to give balance to my post, music is totally subjective, so if people like the out of tune noise, crack on.
God - for someone who don't like the Fall you seem committed to telling us why. Now THATS the emperors new clothes

It's a message board mate where we discuss things, I'm genuinely interested in people's reasons for liking The Fall, no one can explain and tell me what I'm missing about them, and if the reason for liking any form of art cannot be communicated then it's a nonsense.

Indeed, but you're still not making any sense and are really defensive, I get you like this lot, but you still cant explain why? Look I love music, all types of music, so tell me what you think is so good about this alleged artist, so maybe I can appreciate where you are coming from.

Yep, thanks for that. 'The wilful spurning of anodyne synthetic pop'....I dont know why it appeals to music lovers if someone wants to keep causing offence, I get it if you are 17 and angry with the world, but it appears ironic the dullness that he fought against, I dont get it, but hey ho, it thats what floats yer boat.

Pissing yerself and going on stage at nearly 60, is cool right?

    WHY ARE PEOPLE GRUDGEFUL?

@Greenie Can I tempt you with one of my favourite songs in any genre, by any artist? When I first heard it, I must have played it 20 times in a row. And it actually has a tuneful singalong chorus. In fact it's on loop right now.

You really need to crank it up a bit, with decent speakers.

I only like about 5% of Fall tracks, but those I really, really like. Bit like a weird image being used in poetry, it can pass you by, but if it resonates....then oh boy.

All over the world... death for rent [desolate/different/deference - throughout]
    All over europa... different

Come on, come on, come on...

When you were down & out
    I always helped you out
    And when you go out
    You just chat and shop
    You can walk and talk
    Walk and talk
    Without no fear at all
    You can walk and talk
    Walk and talk
    Without no fear at all

    (why, why)
Why why are people grudgeful, boy?
Tell me why are people grudgeful, boy?

    All over the world
    Different different
    All over creation
    Difference difference
    (why, why)

Coming coming coming they're coming, you are crumbling boy

Watch out watch out watch out
    Why, why

    Watch out
    Why, boy, why
    And you tend to forget
Coming, coming, coming right from you boy
    And you tend to forget

    All over the world
    Difference difference
    All over europa
    Difference difference
    (why, why)

So why, why are people grudgeful boy?
So why, why are people grudgeful boy?

Ah-watch out, watch out watch out, watch out..

Have you been on the main stage at Glastonbury in front of 70,000? You might piss yourself too (I know I nearly did).

Have you been on the main stage at Glastonbury in front of 70,000? You might piss yourself too (I know I nearly did).
    Wait what

Although I apparently should do at my age according to Jeremy Vine, I know nothing of The Fall's music. I won't say I've never heard of them as I think I have. So "massive fan" Vine has just played Totally Wired. I don't think I've missed much if this is one of their great songs.

    The Fall aren't for everyone.
    And nor should they be.

Biggest audience I've played to barring live radio, is whatever the Tramshed capacity was, or the Cambridge Rock Festival a couple of years ago.I would love to play in front of 70,000 Mr Seedy, those that know me, I mean really know me, will know it wouldn't phase me at all.
Also I will listen to those songs you mentioned and I dont bear a grudge i like listening to artists ive never heard of but for some reason this fella has got under my skin, I think cos IMHO he's mugged you all off, but what do I know?
    Cheers.
  • I watched the 2015 Fall Glastonbury set and it was compelling in the same way as a car crash. Couldn't take my eyes off him.

I try not to read the arguments.
There’s only the one song (Why are People Grudgeful?), and there’s a YouTube video link in the post above. The best version is on 50,000 Fall Fans Can’t be Wrong.

Have you just come on this thread to wind people up?

People clearly care about the band and Mark E Smith. Now he is dead and you are saying his music is shit. You are right, what do you know? You are ignorant and insensitive.
  • I don't recall the Beeb broadcasting MES' announcement when he hit the stage, but footage on YouTube shows it to have been: "We are the Fall. Not used to the countryside, they're half asleep, the group, they are so happy to be here. Thanks for turning the volume down cunts."
