Good to see that THE MIGHTY Plymouth revival last exactly the one game against us. Lost 3-1 at home to Oxford tonight.
And the mighty Swindon, fresh from a 2-2 draw against us in their last home game, losing 4-1 at home to MK Dons.
There's no getting away from it - our recent results have been poor. Very poor.
An of course since our defeat to Burton they have stormed up the league with 3 draws and 4 defeats in their next 7 games.
It's worse than that as Burton have won one game from the last 22 they have played. That makes us somewhat "unique"!
That is a sobering stat !
It is indeed but proof, if anyone needed it, what a fantastic job Nigel Clough did in his five years at the Club including three in the Championship on a tiny budget and capacity crowd of under 7,000
The results against teams nearer the bottom are really poor but also completely baffling.
We all know we can turn up against Hull on Saturday and put in a good performance. Just what happens when we play teams we really should be getting 3 points against is strange.
You also have to remember that we literally gifted 2 of Burton’s goals to them and were defensively very poor in the other 2.

I am sure it’ll improve as the season goes on.
It'll only improve if we get Famewo or Inniss back or we sign a new centre back in January.
If we continue with Gunter/Pratley then we'll struggle to get promoted and i'm sure Bowyer/Gallen know this.
The performances by Burton, Shrewsbury, Swindon and Plymouth against us would indicate that their players either upped their game against one of the 'top' sides or their players aren't putting the effort in that they are capable of for every game.
All of those teams put in a decent performance against us.

Most teams in the top 6 would set their side up to attack the lower sides. We set up to primarily defend inviting there teams to come at us

the one constant there is Charlton and it indicates our players up their games against top sides or that our players are incapable of putting in the required effort
Hardly earth shattering news that Charlton can not be relied upon to actually do the expected. It's been happening for decades. Not sure any rational analysis will help either, it seems to be something that runs through the core of this football club regardless of encumbants, owner, management or players.
Who do we regularly beat though, regardless of squad or league status? I can only really think of Pompey off the top of my head in recent times, Sunderland maybe? We are not ruthless enough, too nice in a lot of circumstances, AND where we find ourselves today, a bigger scalp in this league. Combined with our usual generosity and the head start we always tend to give everyone, no surprises here.

Wouldnt include Shrewsbury in that list of teams who upped their game against us seeing they got a point against us and then went on to beat Doncaster | Lincoln | Hull

In fact they've not lost under Cotterill yet
That’s true, but they were a poor side when they played us, And we should of won. Their improvement post our draw with them doesn’t actually make our result any better, as some on here have stated, and you are alluding to. Another good result last night, I can see Shrewsbury pushing top 6 soon. An build on a solid defence, rather than free scoring attack.
Well it could be argued that we have had some luck in Pratley and Watson being unavailable for Friday! Not digging out the players, I rate them both but they are not being used properly.
Where have Crewe come from to be only two points off the Play-Offs???
4 wins and 2 draws in last 6 league games. Just shows what a mini run can do in this league.
Shows that even with this bad run of form, we just need a bit of luck to turn it round
Ah, so it's down to luck.
Of course, luck always plays small part in Sport - First goal, that deflection could have gone anywhere today for example
I'm not blaming our bad run on just being bad luck, its individual mistakes that are costing us goals
But sometimes you just need the ball to fall your way, for the opposition to have an offday perhaps, get one win together and you get a small bit of confidence back to cling to

We'll have to wait and see wont we if their absense is a hinderance or a help...

He did use differing tactics in the two games in fairness.

Our defence has been woeful and no reason we should not have played Mingi or Barker. In no game did our CB pairings help with their experience.
Pearcy isn't playing much like a Warrior or experienced club captain for me either.
So for now I’ll happily take that.
