I thought the rookie contracts had set limits anyway so wont get a mega contract until 5th season.

    From the ESPN article:

First-round picks in the NFL draft get fully guaranteed four-year contracts. Last year's No. 1 overall pick, fellow former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, received $32.7 million guaranteed. The No. 32 pick, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, was guaranteed $8.1 million. Those slots will increase along with the still-to-be-determined rise in the 2019 salary cap.
  • start of the season I 'predicted' a Saints/Patriots superbowl .. so it's sure to be a KC/Rams shootout ((:>)

I’m not an expert on baseball so might be off here but I think that pretty much only the $6m bonus he was paid is all the guarenteed money he has if he went for the MLB, with the ‘Farm system’ you work your way through lower leagues earning pretty minimal wages but are expected to keep incredibly fit and perform at your best without even having a ‘spot’ on a major league team at all.

This is mostly accurate. There are multiple levels of Minor Leagues, and he would probably start at A+ which would leave him three levels below the Majors (AA, AAA, MLB). There would be no guarantee he would ever earn a spot in the Major Leagues though getting the guaranteed ML contract would change things as it would benefit Oakland to move him quickly as if he signed an ML contract he has to be added to the forty man roster which means he can play in the Minor Leagues for a maximum of four seasons. Any period longer than 20 days in a season would use up one of his "minor league options". If they tried to send him down to the minors after those options were used up they would need to remove him from the 40-man and any club could claim him at that point.

The only think I think you have wrong is his earnings. Normally a player drafted goes to the minors and earns next to nothing, and they are only paid during the playing season. They don't get paid for pre-season aside from a small per-diem for food. Many players get jobs in the off-season to supplement their wages which can be lower than 10k a year at lower levels.
However if Oakland offer him a Major league contract and add him to the 40-man roster he would most likely have a guaranteed contract. If for example they offered him a 5 year $15m contract then he would be guaranteed that at whatever breakdown they agreed upon. For example it might look like this
    Signing Bonus $4.6m
    2019 $1m
    2020 $2m
    2021 $3m
    2022 $4m
    2023 $5m

That would guarantee him a total of $19.6m. I think they would be more likely to give him a longer contract with maybe lower money in the early years. If they gave him a ML contract today he wouldn't be subject to the normal team control upon reaching the minors and would be a free agent after the 5 years are up. So you might have a situation where he takes 3 years to get to Oakland, and they only have him under control for 2 seasons.

The really interesting stuff starts to happen after he starts playing. He will be playing alongside players who earn almost nothing while he is extremely wealthy. Then there are the other players around the league who are drafted high up wondering why they can't get similar deals. The Major League teams have been very slow to pay their minor leaguers a living wage, they won a massive case last year that allowed them not to pay the minimum wage.
  • It depends what he wants. If this is a preference to play football over baseball, then good luck to him. If he fails baseball will still be there.

If it’s about money, then he needs to get into the top 60 picks to beat his baseball signing bonus. But that not guaranteed. To get guaranteed money he needs to be a first round pick.

Never seen him play, but using a first round pick on a QB this small is a huge risk. It will be a brave GM that does that.

Brave/desperate. QB class is thin this year, I think he'll go first round.
  • I’d be more surprised if he didn’t make it than if he did, as has been said it’s a weak class and there will always be a few teams chasing QBs no matter what. One team to keep an eye on is the cardinals who’s new GM has previously said that if he could pick a QB to build a franchise around it was Kyler.
  • RIP Turk Schonert.

Back up QB to Ken & Boomer in both our Superbowl appearances. Died of a heart attack aged 62

  • Brees has got the quickest average release time in the league.

Do this show the Chiefs O Line is weaker than the others?

  • My money is on Saints Pats Superbowl.

I think it's more to do with his mobility (compared to the others), lack of experience under centre (Brees & Brady have immense awareness in the pocket) and play calling rather than anything else. You don't rack up as much output as the Chiefs have with a weak line. We played them both and to be honest if they both make it to the bowl (which I hope they do) I give the Saints the edge, just! @MrOneLung
  • I want the saints to win overall but would probably prefer Chiefs to beat Pats than Saints to beat Rams in a perverse ‘not the Patriots Again’ kind of way.
  • Obviously hoping for a Chiefs win. Nervous as so many pundits have us as favourites to win the game because of home field advantage and mahomes. But Brady and Belichick not being odds on to win a championship game is ridiculous to me. Most of their players will know exactly what is needed to win as they have the experience. Belichick is better at game management than Reid and it could come down to who has the ball last.

As for Saints Rams. I thought the Saints had their wobble last week. An arrogant start but had the quality to come back. Rams more than the others have tried to buy their way to the title this year. Lots of egos to keep happy. It will be close but Saints win because of Brees.
  • Reckon it'll be a Saints Chiefs SB, but as a Patriot I hope it's a Rams Pats SB

I don’t care about the NFC game, I just want a good spectacle there. Just please no Patriots in the Super Bowl again.
  • Should be 2 cracking games tonight. As in the Divisional round I'll take the home teams again just, obviously wanting the Saints to win and would prefer the Chiefs to get through as well. Could just as easily be Rams/ Patriots however.
  • Rams 6/4
    Saints 8/13

    Patriots 6/4
    Chiefs 8/13

The line is set at three for both games.
  • I just don’t know how you can bet against Patriots this time of season.

Was listening to a show earlier and they said for betting in the States the standard betting line for 2 identical teams would be to give +3 for home field advantage. So both games being plus/minus 3 is a close to 4 even teams as you could get.

  • I reckon Saints v Chiefs.

Put two bets on almost a year ago for Rams or Saints to Win the Superbowl this year. Rams were 25/1, Saints 22/1. Only did a £1 each!
  • Well I hope you lose

Could easily come down to which kicker handles the pressure best.
  • Here we go. 24-14 Saints
  • Looking good so far. 13-0 Saints.
  • Good from the Rams to get back
Think the later game will be more entertaining
  • Needed that TD before half time. Saints were threatening to run away with it at 13-0.
  • Tense finish
  • How is that not a penalty?
  • Terrible officiating
