It isn't the fact that it is one up top - it is the fact that it isn't working and hasn't been working for quite a while! I'm not sure we want to go back to the tactics of the 30s, 40s and 50s either :) Legend that Seed undoubtably was.

    We do, we do. 2-3-5, 2-3-5, 2-3-5!

    And baggy shorts.
  • It's not the shorts that matter, it's what's inside them.
Why oh why can't our lovable rogue follow the lead set by Barnestoneworth?

    The baggy mug.
  • If I remember correctly Barnestoneworth won more games than Robinson!
  • Going back. I have just sourced a Sam Bartram autograph which I am going to add to a framed print I have designed for myself.

If he changes formation now and we start winning. That would be openly admitting he had chosen the wrong formation all season.

Not necessarily, no. We started the season well playing 4-2-3-1. It might mean he's chosen the wrong formation in recent weeks though.

He's not wrong about Ajose. He has worked harder and looked to drop deeper but he hasn't exactly changed games. He made a couple good runs in behind against... Someone I can't remember who, when we were chasing a goal. But he's a very niche player.

As for Zyro, I think he's a wide forward in a 4-3-3 but he also looks capable of playing as a 9 or 10. When we've played him on the right he's looked very isolated, which to be fair everyone does because they have to cover Solly and there is no overlapping run which means teams can double up against our right winger. I hope he's given another chance on Saturday. On a better pitch with a better team performance behind him I think he has the ability to be very effective.
Never really understood that argument. If you have 2 defensive midfielders are they not providing some cover for the full backs? Those in the three can track midfield runners can't they?

Doesn't change the fact that if you buy no strikers and 100 attacking midfielders the chances are you're going to find your options limited.

Formations fail or succeed on the individual players within them. Lower league managers who have favoured formations tie their hands behind their backs from the off (in the short term at least). You can build towards a team of athletic, fouling bullies reasonably cheaply! The top managers with big budgets can have favoured formations as they simply bring in the players who fit them. The task of a Charlton manager in League One with a useless owner who will not back you at the points you need backing, is to find out what set up works best with what you have. And even then, you have to change if opponents find out how to play against it. This is the big failling of Robinson. He now has many injuries and has to juggle with what he is left with - Grapvine gave an excellent example of the thinking he should go through. He may come to a different conclusion to Grapevine, but the process has to happen - and quite simply with Robinson, it doesn't!

KR said in that that Zyro is more of a winger than a striker, then why did you start Mag out wide left on Tuesday, with Zyro upfront???? Makes no sense at all.

Mag is a funny old player. Looks better on the wing to me, and he's at his best defending free kicks and corners.
That's because he's better facing the goal, than playing with his back to goal. (as long as he's not having a shot).
  • So Karl see's Zyro as a winger & our head of recruitment said he was brought in as a number 9 in his video evaluation when we signed him.

    Absolute leadership mess.

    So this !

When Jimmy Seed played for Spurs the manager selected the team and prepared them for the match but didn't discuss tactics with the players. They were just send out onto the pitch and told to get on with it.
In JS's early internationals England didn't even have a manager.

You know what I'm saying here....

    I certainly do.
Bill Shankly said to his team, the Opposition are rubbish Go out and beat them.
  • It does not matter what formation he plays. He can't manage a defence to keep a clean sheet. Are we up to 19 points lost by the defence and midfield panicking in the last 10 minutes.

Who cares about the football, when it's what's inside the shorts that matters?

Things have moved on a bit ?

Not quite sure what you trying to say, maybe spell it out for us thick people & non mind readers. If I was guessing, I would say that we over complicate things these days. Maybe, but after England 3 Hungary 6, things had to move on. England have only won one major title & nothing in the last 50 years.
  • It was a common held view that if you starved players of the ball in training, they would be hungrier for it on the Saturday! You can't be critical , it was those times - You can only judge people in the context if their times.
  • How many more games are we going to go without a win before this clueless fucking idiot changes the formation?!

Or even actually motivates the players. It's not just the formation - something else is also wrong.
    There's no hunger.
