ticket office grumble

absolutely fecking useless.

ill go through my latest dealings with the circus that is unfortunately part of the club;

go online to get Pompey tickets 2 weeks ago ( met all criteria ) cant get them - call the ticket office explain the problem - no worries we can see the system is faulty so as a gesture of GOODWILL we wont charge a booking fee - yes that's correct as the system isn't working correctly they will take my booking over the phone.

tickets will be sent out tonight should have them by friday - 5 days passes no sign of tickets, ring them to be told you'll have to wait and see as they were definitely sent and its royal mails problem - another 7 days passes ( today ) call them up to be told the postman must have lost them and ill have to call again a day before to see IF Portsmouth can do something - i explained that its going to be a sold out game police often ask to look for tickets when heading to ground - told thats not there problem i also explained that its a likely hood i'm going to have to go to the Pompey home ticket office to collect them, meaning mixing with a load of Pompey fans etc.

absolute fucking circus - although what should i expect i'm just a customer.

Never used to be like that in pre-Roland days. Polite, efficient, keen to help, able to use initiative, etc.

Royal Mail should do Charlton for slander, the amount of blame we've tried to send in their direction over the last few years. I'm surprised Karl Robinson didn't try and blame Royal Mail for our numerous lacklustre home performances.

exactly my thoughts, quite a simple reprint the tickets ( 2 of ) not the whole 1500 allocation and everyone would be happy but does kind of take the fun out of it when instead of enjoying a beer with mates will have to go off to the ground early, she said there is also a chance i might not be able to get them and a refund will have to be issued fucking clowns.
  • Shows how useless the ticket office is at the moment.

Yes Royal Mail are useless themselves yet at the moment the club just look like they're passing the buck

Why arent they sending out better than bog standard first class and getting them sent recorded etc. so if someone complains in this sort of case... the club can at least turn round and offer proof of Royal Mail's mistakes
  • Given that there are scanners at so many turnstiles nowadays, why aren't tickets barcoded and printed at home - like they do for concerts etc.

That way, any lost ticket can have the barcode canceled and be re-issued in an instant.

Ending the sale of away game tickets at 1pm on a Thursday, so the remainder can be put in the post back to the home side in time for the game, belongs in the past.

It's simple enough to provide the visiting club with a data file of available seats and then let the software do the leg work. Friday night, send the data file back to the host club.
    Simples.
  • my BIG issue is what about if the game sells out how are they going to magic up 2 tickets?
  • Just purchased some extra tickets to add to my Shrewsbury away order, they were happy to include them in the same row, they were polite, courteous and efficient.

This assumes the club we are playing also has barcode scanners at the turnstiles, a lot still dont.
  • You should have said you had a medical emergency.
  • My grumble is the 20min queue for tickets at a home game when we've got about 10k fans turning up, most with season tickets.
  • Barcode scanners will soon be the norm and all this nonsense will be something else to look back on and laugh about “how things used to be”.

Poster above that talks about stopping sales on a Thursday lunchtime so returns can be mailed back to home club nails it- bloody ridiculous in the modern age.

I doubt Royal Mail would have a leg to stand on. We are always getting other people’s mail through our letter box, sometimes it’s a neighbours and other times its for completely different streets.

Trouble is, when a bunch of people all turn up at 2.40 on a Saturday needing to buy a ticket, and only set amount of ticket windows available to buy from, youre gonna get a queue. In the case of the last home game that ended up being a few hundred walk ups, and a large proportion of these probably had season tickets in prior years so never had to worry about buying on the day.
  • I got my son a half season ticket for his birthday which I wanted to wrap etc and make it look better than card in a plastic wallet.

I ordered it 2 weeks before his birthday and the Wednesday before the game I emailed the ticket office saying they hadn't arrived yet to which they replied that they would be with me Friday.
Nothing in the post Friday, emailed again saying nothing was here could they reprint and we will collect Saturday and as a gesture of good will if they had any presentation boxes left (not the scarf or any of the other bits, just the box) could they put my son's one in it as it would be his birthday the day of the game.
Get to the ground and we just get handed the tickets in an envelope as normal, Wednesday the following week I get an email from the ticket office saying they didnt have anymore presentation boxes left- 4 days after the game!!!!

Also the original tickets purchased never arrived.

Not sure that's fair to say about the Royal Mail.

Obviously we can only speak of our personal experiences, but it still seems a pretty good system to me (the random delivery times aside) and I can't remember anything that I was expecting to be delivered by them to have not turned up.

The club, on the other hand, seem to have got a bit of previous in this area.
  • As you bought the tickets off if CAFC your contract is with them, not Pompey or the Royal Mail. In other words - CAFC will have to sort it.

That's a good point actually and football clubs won't like it. The problem is that they can sort it by giving you a refund.

will wait until Monday then call them again cba to talk to them again today and demand they either send another set of tickets out or i can pick them up on 14th what i don't fancy is going on a wild goose chase in Pompey especially when our ticket office isn't open so not even like ill be able to contact them and it seems far too high tech for them to master this also isn't the 1st time its happened.

Having been in a similar situation to you my advice is get everything in writing if you're having to collect from Pompey. Nothing worse than turning up with no-one knowing what you're talking about.

Get an email from CAFC confirming you can collect from Portsmouth. Forward the email on to the Pompey ticket office and confirm they have knowledge of it and the best place to collect.

In my experience communication and issue resolution isn't a strong point of our ticket office.

If the replacement tickets can be collected from Portsmouth Ticket office I could pick them up for you next week and take them up for you to collect next Saturday at the Valley. Let me know if that is an option.

  • nice one @bc_addick but that's not an option they want me to wait until the day before the game ring them and "see" if anything can be done.

I'd call Pompey now. Ignore what the Charlton ticket office are telling you about waiting. I suspect their answer will be it's Charlton's problem, but you can at least establish that the Pompey ticket aren't going to do anything at the 11th hour and use that to keep on CAFC's back about it and take away one of their 'fob you off' responses away from them. Reason they want you to wait until the day before is because if Pompey say tough, there won't be any time for you to go back to CAFC and play your face again.

Happy to go down on the Friday if you find out early enough. Have CAFC got the row and seat no's

  • i have a funny feeling that the mysterious tickets may appear on tuesday. what would be the chances.

That comment reminds me of one matchday a few years back when a group of 3 lads and their girlfriends all approached the window next to me at the ticket office. My transaction was ongoing so I had a chance to listen in on the request made by the group to my right. They were looking to spend approx. £250 on various home and away games, understandably with the cost to be split across three differing debit cards. The girl behind the window was not happy about that at all. An argument ensued, the member of staff I was dealing with managed to get involved too, somehow. Anyway, within a minute or two she had summoned the security who escorted the 6 and( their money away) from the ground.

Still can't quite understand why their payment method was bought into question ahead of actually selling tickets.

Ooohhh - get you and your perfect life, Shrew...

I was disappointed with the thread in general, I thought it was going to be a "would ya"? :disappointed:
