  • Really thought Bowyer was going to come up with a plan for last night's game to show up Robinson for being the clown he was where tactics are concerned. Turns out he couldn't, but hopefully he'll learn from it , unlike Robinson and we'll come back better. We were never going to win every game , so maybe we'll win the ones that we thought we'd lose and lose the ones we'd thought we'd win? Anyway it's still in our own hands.
  • Play Offs gone !!!

We're still in the play off positions having played the same or more games than one or two others, therefore it is in our hands now more than ever...
  • Seemed more or less nailed on we wouldn't turn up last night and the lads didn't disappoint - I'm sure the Pompey and Rochdale games will go the same way.

Put our team in a remotely intimidating environment and they fold - seems like an inbuilt character flaw. Why does it keep happening? It would be nice if we intimidated other teams for a change.

It keeps happening because Charlton fans as a generalisation want decent people to play for the club.
We don't want Ched Evans, Ben Thatcher, Dennis Wise, Terry Hurlock, Roger Johnson etc etc.

So guess what, when the going gets tough we bottle it and always will unless we acquire some tougher players.
Why do we always perform poorly against Millwall ? Same reason.

We can't have it both ways. If we want nice guys playing for us we have to expect that they will get outfought when the heat is on.
  • If we'd have been offered a play-off spot a month ago with 5 games left most people would be up for that. Last night was piss poor and a few more performances like that will end any promotion hopes. It's roll your sleeves up time for players, manager and fans. We all want to get out of this league and wave goodbye to Roland with single digits. Lets hope that the team pick up again....very soon.

Bring in Mick McCarthy now, instead of in the summer, now that he has left Ipswich

The football might be awful but I reckon he'd get us out of the division.
If Robinson had stayed he might have got us out of this division.

Fourth Division football would have been a real eye-opener ...
Short memory. We scraped the bottom of Div 1 under Slade. Robinson guided us away from the prospect of Div 2 fairly successfully.

Charlton’s long term problems will only be solved by a change of ownership, so long as new owners are ambitious.

Ridiculous scenes here. 2 weeks ago we were nowhere. We thrash three teams, conceeding only 1 goal.

We lose 1 game and you guessed it, a bunch of adults who haven't discovered fire, yet can operate a computer declare that the playoffs are gone. This is their conclusion despite the fact we're actually in the playoffs and are about to play all the teams around us.

This. And those who come out with this "season over" nonsense every time we don't win a game will hopefully stay away if we do get into the Playoffs.

season was over before it began really no one hand of heart can say with our squad on paper should be scraping into 6th place, start of the season i genuinely believed we would be battling for autos.
It’s the old ‘how good is our squad’ argument again.
On paper better than Wimbledon perhaps, but only if you’re just taking the players technical ability into account. Football is about way more than technical ability.
  • And another thing - if Bowyer had spent less time arguing with the 4th official & more time concentrating on the game then we might have got a different result. I was stood right behind the dugout & was a bit of an eye-opener.

I thought we were in the top half when Slade left, could be wrong it’s all a blur the past 3 years anyway. Agree about the ownership obviously.
  • Said all season it would be decided at Rochdale.

Can't have been great for Ajose's confidence. He's been a fantastic team player for the past few games and then gets dropped for a loanee in Mavididi who has offered fuck all since he's come back from injury, and by the sounds of things did sweet FA last night too.

Hopefully Nicky was just being rested for our now HUGE upcoming matches against sides that actually try to play football.

Mavididi was superb when he came on at Northampton.

  • we had a bad game, nothing more.
we could easily win the next home game on Saturday.
even Blackburn and Shrewsbury have had a couple of odd results lately.
under Robinson we could have lost or Drawn our last 5 Games, just like Oxford have.
lets put one Bad Result under Lee Bowyer behind us, and move on to the next game.
negative bollocks from a few negative fans will not help anyone.
the last 40 years have not been all disasters have they !!
  • Must admit, really like what Bowyer says post match so far

Unfortunately, good after match chat doesn't equal 3 points.

We were midtable but a bit precarious when Slade was sacked, but then under Robinson we had a couple of bad runs which left us looking even worse before the late run of good form took us to respectability. After the MKD defeat on the 4th April, we were 17th, 4 points above the drop zone and 19 points from the playoffs.

I then give you Mark Kinsella, Eddie Youds, Peter Shirtliff, Steve Brown.

All would die for he shirt, played with heart & passion & none of them "bad boys"
I totally agree, but those type of Charlton players are few and far between and played for us between 10 and 30 years ago.

Powell’s promotion winning squad had quite a few players who were willing to put a shift in a not bottle it. Taylor, Morrison, Solly, Hollands, Jacko, Yann were players who could mix it and not go missing when it mattered. Not that long ago
The current team are not afraid to get their boots dirty.....

Well I have no idea what Magennis had inside his but I was stood right behind the dug-out & he took about 10 mins at the start of the game cleaning the inside of them with what looked like a loo brush !!
  • Quick work out on Fosu, Home/Away

Charlton @ home - averaged 1.71 points per game
    with Fosu its 1.87 ppg
    without Fosu its 1.33 ppg

Charlton away - averaged 1.30 points per game
    with Fosu - 1.50 ppg
    without Fosu - 1.00

So we are above average with him both home and away, and below average without him.

Mostly meaningless as it doesn't take into account other factors such as form, team and opposition but it kept me busy for 5 minutes

What about with Holmes before he was sold?

It must be nice to be so rational - you talk like a couple of patronising schoolteachers addressing a bunch of five year olds. It's fairly obvious why people are pissed off - we haven't turned up in a pressure game against a mediocre side. It's quite normal for people for fans to be disappointed after a display like that.

If we lower our expectations enough then we can all be completely rational and just be grateful the team have worked jolly hard. Some of our supporters would happily sit there and lap up any old shit.

I'm hacked off that we've lost and played badly as well in a key game against the mighty Wimbledon. If we'd lost 5-4 in a thrilling game in the Champions League I might feel a bit different.
Well suggesting that it is 'season over' literally every time we draw/lose isn't exactly rational either is it? Especially when we are actually in the Playoff spots!

I get it that people are pissed off about not beating Wimbledon, but if you aren't used to not winning every single week after god knows how many years of supporting Charlton then I don't know what to tell you.

Just be happy that we aren't on a 6 game winless run or hovering in mid/bottom half of the table.

My view is this proves we have a team with a lot of chancers and wasters - thats not good.

I'm sure there are many poor sides in this League, but I doubt there are many, especially those in the top 6, that have NO efforts on target during a game. This is not an isolated incident either - Blackpool away last month we were just as abject, as we were as well at home against Fleetwood.

Its not the losing last night that I can't stomach, but the way the team just didn't have any ideas, any purpose or any threat going forward. In the team we had 2 Premiership players and 1 from the Championship, who paid good money for him 2 years ago. Wimbledon had no-one from above this League.

They were not physical or hard working, we just didn't show up. That is the thing that annoyed me so much

Totally disagree. This was exactly the reason they won. They were physical, hard working and out battled us and we threw the towel in .
Noticed in both games against Rotherham and Wimbledon, Mavadidi bottled challenges and wasn't working hard enough and chasing every ball. In our position we cant carry players who are neglecting to do the ugly stuff.

We beat Southend the next game after MK Dons (5th last of the season) admittedly most of our fans (most can’t see the bigger picture) were glad of the win that pulled us away from any potential trouble , myself thought it’d help the scum and would rather we had drawn .
One draw and 3 wins followed to ensure a magnificent 13th place finish in League One for the miracle working Robinson , heady times
  • Patience is something that does not exist in football anymore.

If it is not going well for a manager after 10 games there are grumblings of discontent and people wanting a change and that is totally ridiculous, stability is needed(ain't that right Mr Blackpool?!).

Let's see where we are with Bowyer come the 5th May.

    Simples.

Bowyer is a temporary manager who has inherited a pile of s*** from KR so It's pretty hard to judgè him other than to say we look less bad than we were.

The Wimbledon result/display was the usual Charlton bottle job - it almost seems part of the club culture now. We fold in any remotely intimidating environment and I expect the same against Portsmouth.
