The "mid-season/winter break" whatevercrockofutterfuckshittheyrecallingit will be happening purely and simply because the right amount of money will be moving to the guardians of the game at the FA. Without starting earlier or finishing later all clubs will still have to fit in the same number of fixtures as always, eliminating the possibility of replays for 5th round FA cup matches can only benefit 16 teams, this year only 2 PL sides. Slackening off this much vaunted "intensity" for a week or so might benefit a few performances temporarily but the overall impact will be zero at best. Cramming more games in to the periods before and after the "break" will inevitably create at least as many problems. As for having the break during the worst of the weather - ha fucking hah good luck with that you shameless lying nest feathering morons.
This is a load of crap. The thing that makes English football great is that it’s such a hard slog - although City made it look pretty straightforward this season! I love the fact we can have Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday weeks, as it separates the men from the boys. Teams putting their feet up for 2 weeks mid season and playing a friendly or two in the US/China/Dubai will just ruin the flow of the season in my opinion. But at least we’ll win back to back Euros and WOrld Cups in the near future I guess! Every cloud n’all that!

Dont worry that'll be the next thing that the big six will moan about - Give it a few more years the Premier League will probably get reduced to 18-teams whilst the Champions League will probably increase a few games somewhere!!

Obviously reducing the PL from 20 teams is the only sensible option but ain't ever gonna happen cos of the noses firmly welded to the trough. The PL clubs will continue to reduce their participation in the league cup and fa cup all the while the mega money is there to be hoovered up from the Champions(!) League and the PL overseas TV deals.
From down here in the 3rd division it's all just so much noise.

Either that or they'll push even harder to have their B Teams in these competitions - Means they can still effectively win those competitions whilst resting players for more important matters, Arsenal have effectively been doing that in the League Cup at least for years
Goal posts will always move with the big sides, they'll never be content with what they get
IT's a depressing time of year as it is, now less football on the tele. Might mean I will have to talk to the Mrs......which means I might have to get a Mrs. IF the glass is half full, it would almost certainly mean a few more football league games on tele in that period so not to bad.
It's a staggered break, there will be games on throughout the period.
Premier League clubs will have a winter break in February from the 2019-20 season, the Football Association has announced.
The break will be staggered across two weeks, with five matches on the first weekend and five the following weekend.
The FA Cup fifth round will be moved to midweek to accommodate the break, with replays being scrapped at that stage.
Another attack on the FA Cup. Surely only a matter of time until it all replays (from Round 3 onwards at least) are scrapped and every round after the Premier League clubs join in is played in midweek.
It's the FA all over though isn't it. They bleat and cry and about the FA Cup and how teams don't respect it and yet they are the ones who are constantly destroying its value by buggering about with. They're the same as the idiots who run cricket. Blindly copy what more successful countries do without understanding what it actually is that makes them successful.
Bad luck lower league clubs, you're chance of a money making replay is going down the toilet too.
Oh hang on wait, England players have played less games than the Spanish | French | Germans ahead of this World Cup so no they wont
Oh well another excuse will be needed, probably be the fact that English clubs cant compete with Barcelona etc in the Transfer Market so to do so, ticket prices will be increased
I remember when the Premier League was formed we were told how the England national team would benefit. That went well didn't it? This isn't a winter break, its a break for the top 4 clubs who are in the Champions league break. So they can do even better in the Champions league earn even more money and get even further ahead of the rest of the clubs. How the hell this benefits England I don't know. And the FA cup takes yet another hit.
Said it for years. Any mid season break would only have the big teams having high profile friendlies. If your sucsessfull, you play more games. That’s the point don’t moan.
For a team not in Europe, 38 league games plus a few EFL and FA Cup games is nothing.
I can understand foreign players and managers being unhappy with the congested Christmas schedule (which is massively compromised by TV considerations) but the current fixture programme was fine as it was really.

No, stop thinking about it.

We were told that the advent of the Premier League would help the national team too, remember? That worked out well, didn't it...
