first reaction was to think it was ott, but then, by clamping down on it early teaches people a lesson that the word used is not acceptable.

shame cos i liked that emily for the havoc she was causing and i wanted that shabnam to go tmrw, but she shouldn't have said it and its good she's gone.

she shouldn't have to be informed that its not acceptable, she should know. didn't she claim to be intelligent?

Apparaently it's ok if you're a working class 'celeb'... but not if you're a posh little middle class girl who thought 'indie' was a new type of music.

Well at least she didn't shout 'Oi Ginge'

How many songs these days contain the word 'nigger' in their lyrics? Is it really that much of an offensive word any more?

Shame she's gone as she is fit, don't really give a toss about what she said to be honest, but will miss the fact that the girls will now have one 1 less person to fight over the gas powered straighteners now.

Emily has been booted out, for using the word 'nigger' last night....
  • Options
A white girl called a black girl 'nigger' but wasn't using it in an offensive way, more a 'getting down with her homies' kind of way. If it was a black girl to a black girl nothing would have happened but because she's white she got kicked off.
I can see why though, as Suzi said it makes it clear that nothing will be tolerated.

can't believe people are watching it....

ranked only number 5 in the ofcom swearing/offensive language severity ratings. the context determines the impact however.
  • Options
Not sure the context, if it was said as abuse she should walk, if she was getting 'down with the crew' she should get a reprimand.

    :)

I saw a bit for the first time the other night at my girlfriends house and i kid you not a girl was sobbing in the diary room because her hair was a bit curly and she needed to use hair straighterners but another girl had wanted to use them first. Dear oh dear!

Not watching it, just picking this up from the Sky News website...

Here, apparently, is the transcript of what was said. If true, Charley should get the boot too for using the word... oh, but hang on, she's black so it's ok for her to say it!!!!!!!

Emily: (referring to Charley dancing/pushing her hips forward) You pushing it out you nigger.
Nicky: (shocked laughter) Em, I can't believe you said that.
    Charley: You are in trouble.
Emily: Don't make a big thing out of it then. I was joking.
Charley: I know you were? but that's some serious s**t, sorry.
    Emily: Why?
Charley: Oh my god. I'm not even saying it.
Nicky: Just don't talk about it anymore.
    Emily: I was joking
Charley: Do you know how many viewers would watch that?
Nicky: Okay, don't make a big deal out of it.
Charley: Fancy you saying that. I can't believe you said that.
Emily: Somebody has already used that word in this house.
Charley: No way. (Pause) Yeah, me. I'm a nigger.

    Nicky laughs.

Charley: I am one. Fancy you saying it. I know maybe you see it in a rap song. Maybe you and your friends sit there saying it.
Emily: I'm friendly with plenty of black people.
Nicky: And you call them niggers?
Emily: Yeah and they call me niggers. They call me wiggers as well.
    Nicky: I'm quite shocked.
    Charley: I'm f*****g in shock.
Emily: It's not a big deal though is it?

how many times can medders get "that" word into this thread?
  • Options
I always liked Chris Rocks description of 'niggers' as a specific type of black person much like 'chavs' is a specific type of white person. I guess the word just has too much baggage for white people to use. Kinda dumb thing to say on BB though.

I agree. we all know what the word is now. No need to keep repeating it.

Stupid show and stupid contestants. The other people were shocked and told her she was wrong to use the word and yes it is different a black person saying it. Like a gay person using Queer or a Jewish person using Yid. Context is so important.

My last comment on BB as I'm not going to be dragged into discussing such manufactured, sensationalist, exploitative and manipulative bollocks.

Medders was just quoting what was said , he was n't putting the word in on purpose

Eh? Leave it out. I've said it twice, and the other part was a direct copy and paste from the Sky News website. Perhaps you'd like to go tell them they're using it too much on their report? Crikey.

    agree with shag.

i think the programme is great. for a few years the concept of the programme has someone what altered but this year with the 11 girls and 1 boy has brought a whole new angle on behaviour.

its fascinating to watch characteristics and personalities evolve due to the situations.

although the contestants aren't a balanced cross section of society, i still think its relatively educational.

just like meerkat manor and how they behave (tho they didn't audition which is what the fundamental difference is) watching people react to circumstances is brilliant.

I agree that an hour edited show isn't representative of what has happened in 24 hours in the house, and i do believe they edit and aren't selective in what they show, but i think its great if you take an objective view of it.

well done to the show for kicking her out, the word is not acceptable, and this "its ok for some people to use" arguement is pointless. the word is awful, shouldn't be used, and hopefully this event will educate those that think it is ok to use.

Medders has quoted something that is being reported in established press, no problem with that.

As a rule, this isn't strict a purely footballing site (though that should be the main element), and anything kind of goes. But general debates on contentious issues, race, politics, missing kids etc, or anything that might have an undercurrent, are grey areas personally i'd rather we avoided as a rule.

Why? It's no different from any other word.

Come on. If that was true then there wouldn't be all the fuss.

I don't like the word, don't use it and don't like hearing or reading it. Sky News, Chris Rock, Elvis Costello, some rap singer or whoever may use it but I still don't like it.

Make whatever of that but that's where I stand on it. That is my last comment on this thread.

Those girls should kicked out, trying to rip the clothes of that guy, if that was the other way round the ladswould be spending the night in the cells, not the house.
