  • Watched on Russia TV stream and commentators made some good points.

Shrewsbury's game plan worked to perfection. Big, strong, fit and fight for every blade of grass plus one moment of great quality.

Can't fault our effort but even under Lord B. we look disjointed in the final third and created very little. Hardly noticed our front two.

This might put a load of pressure on them in the second leg and we have nothing to lose. Still think we will pinch it.

    Weirdly, I also fancy us

    God knows why
  • Reeves is in no way a winger. Kashi and F-C need to talk more, both either sit back or go forward at the same time leaving us exposed too often. Ran out of ideas once they sussed out the Da Silva to Mavididi repetition.

Shit sorry, didn’t mean to post that pic 5 times!

Don't apologise. Highlight of the evening so far.
  • We only attacked down the left in second half after Konsa caused them a few problems on the right in the first. Don't remember even seeing him in the second half. Strange.
  • Fair result in the end (especially given the balance of play in the second half) and Shrewsbury would surely have gone away disappointed if they'd not won it.

They finished third for a reason, but all to play for.
  • So disappointing but we are capable of far better than that. Anything can happen on Sunday.

  • Watching on sky, thought Reeves and Mavididi were both too wasteful and would drfinitely bring marshall and fosu into the 11 on sunday

    Agree.

Plus Djiksteel in for Konsa, and maybe Zyro for Ajose. Lets have two big fellas sorting out that tough Shrews centre back pairing.
  • They’re a big physical and well drilled team. We’re a bit tip tap. Which is how we should play Sunday. Play round them, pass and move. Have a right go at them. Two proper wingers, fosu and Marshall.
  • Disappointed. Instead of Reeves and Mavididi we got Reeves and Mortimer.
We defended well but ultimately we don’t have a proper striker and that’s will be our downfall.
    It’s not over though .
  • Bowyer got a lot of big calls wrong tonight. How the fuck did big josh last 90 mins!!!
Why aren't we playing with two proper wingers?
It looks like Bowyer has squeezed as much as he can out of this poor squad

They were the better side and it was a very well taken goal. Think I jinxed it about 2 minutes before by thinking that all Nolan had done was made a hash of a few openings and tart around with his fringe.

Amos, Bauer, Da Silva (beyond that pass across the pitch and into touch) and Fosu played well, but the latter two looked our only real dangers, we really had very little threat going forward.

Kashi was slow to react and so gave away too many fouls, and Konsa didn't have a great game.

Need to get it down and let Fosu and maybe Aribo or Marshall run at them on Sunday, they looked very comfortable in the air but less so against pace.
  • Halftime ... I reckon we will do it Sunday.
  • The goal scorer had three swings at the ball in the second half. First one he took an air shot, the second was well wide & the third hit the spot. We didn’t have anyone trying the same.

That saying things come in 3’s....

Or 5’s in Oz Addick’s case
  • All i can say is
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
    And a massive FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKK
  • Positives: We are no way out of this at the moment.

Negatives: We were out thought, out muscled and ultimately outplayed today.

Bowyer has to be brave next match and drop Kashi and play Reeves through the middle and Marshall or whoever on the wing. Not sure what it is with crunch games like this, but we always seem to get stuck with one of our defenders passing it two our left back who instantly has two players on him.

Also the bloke sitting next to me in the west stand who fucking lathered himself in aftershave. Sort it out mate.

Have you not noticed it all season mate? He's got a thing for you and he felt that tonight was his chance!! He was hoping that a victory would afford him the opportunity to take advantage of you in a moment of weakness. Plus he also thought that you were more than a little partial to Old Spice!
Watch out for him in Shropshire! It will be Brut up there!!

Positives: we can’t play worse than that

Shrewsbury, although solid, are nothing spectacular

    Not happy

But, in these cup type games they are good and experienced. they've already been to Wembley this season (lost to Lincoln) and played very well over two legs against Hammers, so not a poor side by any stretch. their manager has done what Powell did with our bunch a few years back. Brought in a lot of quality for cheap and knitted together to create a great heart and togetherness. Bowyer is doing that too, it's just he's much further back in the rebuilding process.

we aren't out of this but any team that loses a first leg play-off is automatically on a downer. Shrewsbury are right to not count their chickens just yet. respect to them for the muted celebrations at full-time. shows a quality club. Let it be us displaying a muted celebration on Sunday.
    Good post that.
  • Lightweight and clueless
  • Get rid of Reeves
The difference tonight was that Nolan scored and played well and his opposite number Reeves was a waste of space

Give over mate. Reeves is not a winger, he has no pace and no strength and basic dribbling skills. He needs to be played through the middle where he has options to pass (something he can do very well) to players on either side of him.

But he's not strong enough to play in the middle in a 4-4-2 so if he's not good enough as a winger then we're restricted to either 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-2-1-2 diamond when he plays.
  • Their goal was a doozy, other than that... Grrr
  • Maybe LB should bring in some of the players that saw us through the 97/98 play-offs all those years ago - Sasa, Kinsella, Mendonca, Newts (if he isn't in prison), Rufus (see Newts), Hunt - tell them what it means to be Charlton and to make it to Wembley....
  • 4-4-2, Amos, Dijksteel, Bauer, Pearce, Dasilva, Marshall, Aribo, JFC, Fosu, Zyro, Magennis.
