  • And the teams taking the best penalties!
  • And the teams taking the best penalties!

True but considering usual statistics show the team going first win 60% of shootouts to have 4 in a row/tournament go the other way is mildly interesting
  • Cheryshev is such a great player to watch. All this chat about Messi and Ronaldo - I reckon Cheryshev is better than both of them.

Cheryshev came on as sub after 20 minutes in the first match and scored two crackers, another superb goal yesterday and the world of football knows who he is.
World cups produce unknown players who rise to the occasion like Harry Maguire who won't be known to the once every two year WC or euros watchers.
Your comment about Messi and Ronaldo is a lazy eyed Metaphor.
So well done you for living up to your name.
Or I should change my name to post irony
  • The first Russian penalty was criminal.
  • When Rashford was through against Belgium, I was relieved when he missed - that relief is a give away. When Croatia won on penalties, I was relieved. I didn't fancy Russia. Yes they haven't got the best players, but they have the home crowd it it was giving them an extra 10%. I think Croatia will struggle with our set pieces.
  • Taking on a team is one thing but a whole country is another

90 mins from the World Cup final and the country your facing is Russia in Russia

    Fuck that
  • The first Russian penalty was criminal.

Someone mentioned the other day about how Pickford brought the ball to the next England player during the ENGCOL shootout.
I noticed that the two Russians who missed were both standing round like a spare prick at a wedding for about 30 seconds before taking their pens. The first one (the really terrible pen) in particular - stood there waiting while the ref chatted with the goalie, then eventually he started looking round asking for the ball. I know it didn’t make him miss, but the pressure must have just been rising and rising.

  • Tottenham have 13 players, past or present, still left in the competition. That is quite something.

I still don't like Tottenham though

  • It would have been absolutely epic to beat Russia in the Semi Final on their own turf. I don’t need to go into the details obviously, but the back story and context of the whole thing would have been unreal.
  • Obviously 2 x extra time adds to it but Croatia have done the same.

The 38 year old is a centre half!!!
    Suspicious at the very least
  • And France (2006) were the last team not to win their Group but reach the Final
  • This World Cup is mental, anything can and probably will happen.

  • Puzzled why a 38 year old central defender would have needed to cover so much distance.

I imagine that the England stats would have Henderson or Trippier top, followed by Young, Sterling and Lingard

No idea for the other games but v Colombia our top 3 were:

    Lingard - 15,399 metres
    Henderson - 14,271
    Trippier - 13,596
  • Is it not the case the opposition had more of the ball so they have been chasing the ball around more than their oppo ?

Well the thing is when it was pointed out in the group stages how far they were running the excuse was that they were playing weaker teams. In the knockouts the excuse is now that they had to run around more BECAUSE they were the weaker team.

They forgot to take their Beta Blockers for the penalties though! :)
  • Because Russia have commited drug violations in so many sports, why wouldn't we be suspicious.
If a horse was no where in a seller at Yarmouth, and six months later came 6th in a classic there would be a stewards enquiry.

Every year that Brazil have not won since 1990, the team that beat them has reached the final or better...

    Belgium tomorrow then?
  • Aldi to close all English stores at 3pm on Sunday if we make the final to allow their staff to watch. A really nice touch, especially from a German company
