Greed as if you know a player's full motivation, or even understand their pressures. From all reliable sources within the club it was the club that pushed the transfer to Huddersfield.
I can't honestly believe grant got any abuse at all! He went from League 1 to the Premier league for god sake, he might not ever play there again who know!
The fact that Huddersfield are joint 2nd favourites and could be league 1 says no one knows where he is going lol
If Fulham don't go up this season I would think Mitrovich will be off to someone in the PL. Taylor would be a ready made replacement and Fulham would make a decent turn on the deals.
A bit like us selling Grant and replacing him with Josh Parker!

This.
Grant was in pieces when he left Sparrows Lane for the last time.
The two Danny's, Mills and Murphy would also make my Room 101.
i'll also add Hasselwank and John Barnes to Room 101
Barnes? Not for me. Granted he didn't do much but was a free and at the very end of his career. Also in Curbs' book I'm sure he spoke positively of him and his attitude.
Because (like Parker) he left us in the lurch & when we were going for a top 6 spot. He then join a Huddersfield team that were obviously getting relegated & only likely going to play a dozen games in the top flight. All about money & nothing to do with football.
In the immortal words of KK......"I'd love it" if they got relegated this season.
With all the shit going on at the club under Roland (remember Aribo getting offered a contract, then withdrawing it and offering a new one with significantly less wages?) Not sure I can blame Grant for wanting to go elsewhere. Unlike Taylor, he never refused to play and it was the club pushing the transfer rather than the player downing tools

Anyone would take the chance to play in the prem, even if it’s just ‘a dozen games’. He scored against his boyhood club and has proved himself in the top division, which I’m sure will benefit him if Huddersfield go down and he needs to look for a new club.
Im not on twitter and was surprised to see the hatred between the fans and grant and visa versa when we played this season.
So gutted 🙈. Hes one who will never come back. Unless its to haunt us (just scored), nightmares of defoe.
We seem do this to quite a few players who leave. Maybe not aribo or gomez or shelvey id presume.
Taylor im unhappy about tho as the club has the risk of going under with all the uncertainty if relegated plus the fact we pay him for games he hasnt played (or seem to be). He can do one.
We should just lock close delete this thread and move on. He certainly has.
The abuse Grant got in the match at Huddersfield was pretty unpleasant really, it went way beyond the "pantomime booing" ex players sometimes get. He was perfectly entitled to cock an ear to the Charlton fans after scoring.
The stick Bielik got when we played Derby was rather unnecessary too

Unpleasant is putting it mildly for me. Some of it was disgusting. I'll never understand why some people feel the need to give stick to the likes of Grant, Ricky Holmes, Wagataff and others for absolutely no reason.

Shows how many knobs we have supporting us these days. Not saying that they are the same people but you only have to look at the hysterical posts on this forum every time a player chooses to leave. Some people need to realise that there is no longer any such thing as loyalty in football, whether that be from player to club or from club to player.
Grant did nothing wrong. Club accepted a bid, he moved to play a few games in the premier league. huge pay rise. He played even when he knew the move might come, unlike Taylor. Parker played right through to the end of his transfer. Dont understand Lyle. unusual character.

I agree that the abuse is unacceptable. Also that we have our share of wankers following the club.
But why should we "realise that there is no longer any such thing as loyalty in football"? Why would you even want to have anything to do with it in that case? There may be a sad shortage of loyalty, but we should continue to expect it.

Don’t think he did , thought he threw toys out of pram and refused to train

Because the evidence is in front of your very eyes. It doesn't mean that you can't hope for loyalty to occur. Many players, mostly youngsters who may have been at a club for many years, are readily discarded, as are players going out of contract. Charlton are no different to any other club in this respect.

But you say "some people need to open their eyes"? I don't agree. I think we should continue to expect loyalty. I expect it. It may not happen, but I expect players to show it and if they don't they need to ask themselves some questions about their values. If we stop expecting it we are on our way to accepting it.

Whether you accept it or not it is the way of the current football world. Do you expect the club to show loyalty towards players, or do you expect them to make a commercial decision when a player's contract is coming to an end?

I take your point, but I think there is also room for a club to show loyalty towards a player (ie supporting them through months of treatment when they are unable to play, and continuing to honour their salary) and planning appropriately when a contract is running down, and I think a player can take a reciprocal approach. I am aware that disloyalty is "the way of the world", but I also think that the more it is accepted the worse it gets, like all bad behaviour.

That isn't showing loyalty, that is protecting an asset, under salary, that you hope will bear fruit on the pitch.

Even so, the abuse is unnecessary and will usually spur a player on.
