  • I'm sure there are many people more evil than Lyle Taylor. He may be above average in many aspects of his life and personality in terms of decency, but he did let his team mates and us down quite significantly and we are always going to view the situation from that perspective. Understandably so.
  • Is solly and lyle first players to refuse to play for Charlton?

I would not play for Southall, so I have some sympathy for them
Parker reportedly refused to play, hence his 'dream' move to Chelsea oblivion.
How can you have any sympathy for Taylor and solly, They wern't
playing for Mouthall, they were playing for the club, for the fans
and for the shirt, although it seems they thought they were better
than all of that, and instead just stuck two fingers up to the lot
of us, no morals at all :s

If you want to believe Lyle Taylor is a cxxt then carry on.
I know the story of how he stepped in and protected a youth player at Wimbledon who was threaten by a senior pro who had just been nutmegged by a young player in training.
The Lad's mum said he was brilliant and supportive of the academy players, then in knowing I was a Charlton fan burst into a rendition of "Lyle Taylor baby"; most surreal as we were at an 8 tier match that her son was now playing for (last season)
A deed that no doubt inflated his ego even more.

I couldn’t give a s**t if he delivered the tea ladies baby when at Falkirk or helped an old man across the road when at Sheffield United, he left Charlton fans and his Charlton teammates in the lurch and he will never be forgiven.

Of course most Charlton fans will hate him and he is intelligent enough to know that when he refused to play in the 3 matches when under contract. The EFL and Premier League should've had a penalty clause, put in place to stop Taylor, Fraser, Hendrick, Solly etc from going on strike.
The other 6 games would have been under the interim contract which players didn't have to abide by.
Agreed Taylor has a massive ego
(I told him to his face and he took it as a compliment) but that didn't seem to be a problem when he was our star player and winding the opposition up.

Bizarrely I took Scott Parker leaving worse because he was offered 24k a week and a one million loyalty bonus to stay but he preferred to sit on the bench at Chelsea.
We were 4th in  premier and Chelsea were 6th from memory.

Lyle was on 4.5k a week(red henry knew this) and Southall through his contacts within Charlton supporters spread the lie that he had been offered between 16 and 18k a week (Many CL member were passing this on over the garden fence)

The massive ego has landed at Forest,
So far he can't see the wood for the trees.
No hate, but I don't wish him well on the field.

I do not believe for one moment his dream move was to Forest.  I suspect something else fell through.
I do however expect he got an exceptional signing on fee (circa £2m).
Bloke still has no integrity, he is an absolute phoney.
    He won't have got £2m.

But even a few hundred grand and then £15-20k a week is somewhere between £3-4m over the course of that contract.

Might not be a 'dream' move, but going from £250k a year to around a million is life changing.

Still should have played whilst under contract before going.

Where did I say that I have sympathy for Taylor or Solly? Far from it, neither has any excuse, they should be ashamed of themselves and they should never feel comfortable looking back on this time.

I hope that they will not feel comfortable looking a Charlton fan or an ex Charlton colleague in the eye.

Isn't it  about time we got over Lyle Taylor? I really don't care if he scores 25 or no goals this season. Same as Bonne. As soon as a player leaves Charlton I have no interest in him anymore.

    @dickplumb
So you have no interest in Joe Gomez ?
Having seen Joe Gomez play as a 15 year old for under 18's after being told by Joe Pigott's dad that he was the outstanding academy player and realising, barring injuries, would play for England.

Despite Joe Pigott and Michael Smith not making it at Cafc, pleased to say I have followed their careers and both have reached my prediction of scoring goals in League 1 and 2. Smithy has even had 2 seasons in Championship.

I hope Lyle stays healthy (I only hate people who do wrong to my family or property) BUT I'm finding schadenfreude is kicking in big time with Lyle Taylor.

This argument goes around and around...

For some people, when a player leaves Charlton, that ends their interest in the player.

For some people, when a player leaves Charlton, there remains an interest in the player and how they develop (or how they don't).

    I'm in the latter camp.

As always, if there is a thread on a subject that doesn't interest you, don't read it...

Don’t open the thread then. I enjoy seeing him and his team do shit.
So, just as a matter of interest, what happens if Taylor suddenly comes
good, banging in goals, and Forest shoot up the table, will this thread
die, I have nothing good to say about Taylor, so no axe to grind here :)

Came on as a sub in the 70th minute. No goals in 5 games. I'm quite happy with this. Ive just seen a tweet by Jacqui Oatley that they pay some "massive wages at the club" so I expect things to go sour soon!

0 goals in 8 games it is for him now since Feb.

Bet he's really happy for Bonne and that he's managed more goals than him so far.

doubt I'd then comment, but all the while he's not scored and his team are doing shit, then it's funny
  • Perhaps we need a Karlan v Lyle v Macauley v Conor League table :)

    Nah
  • Don't think your spreadsheets skills are up to it then Dazzler? 😏
  • I think players have a different attitude to fans, as the club (for most) is just an employer, and the better ones have a chance to move on anyway

Ryan Fraser was pretty half hearted at Bournemouth last season, culminating in him not playing after the restart, something which contributed to them going down. Callum Wilson was one of the players impacted, indeed Fraser was one of his main suppliers of crosses

However, Wilson then gets a big move back to the PL at Newcastle, where he is playing alongside Fraser again, and they're all buddies once more. Indeed Newcastle signed Fraser AND Jeff Hendrick, 2 players who refused to restart...
