The Globe Theatre

Hi All

Went to the globe on my Birthday Last Thursday and to see 'Merchant of Venice', and I had a really good time. Shakespeare as it should be done and the theatre in my view.

Drinks allowed in the terracing and standing area, £6.00 to stand (the play goes on through the standing area) a really unique atmosphere, if any of you out there want to do something different this summer I highly reccomend, remember the standing is uncovered.

As a kid I got taken along by school to a dozen of more Shakespeare plays and although some of them I enjoyed, Taming of the Shrew (bawdy!) and Henry V (Makes any English man or woman proud) the vast majority of the time I was bored. This refreshed me and made me want to go again. Got our tickets on the day so not sold out all the time.

  • i remember seeing twelfth night years ago on a school trip as a 15/16 year old that had a fit young judy dench in it and thinking she looked the business...now, however, whenever i watch the recent james bood films i just cant equate her with being the object of immoral faults that night...
  • Anybody been recently?
I'm assuming with Pickwick's post that you are able to sit too?
  • Yes, the Globe is one of my favourite places in the world and I would heartily recommend it if you like Theatre.

You can sit but the price is very much higher than standing (obviously) however, if you are able to stand I believe that this is the way to go especially if you can get there early enough to grab a spot near the stage. If you do decide to sit then go the whole hog and pay the small surcharge for a cushion coz they are the most uncomfortable seats in the world.

What are you thinking about seeing?
  • Not sure yet JW, was hoping to see Titus Andronicus , as it has such a reputation , but i notice it is no longer on .
My daughter asked if we could go there, so will have to look to see what productions are being done soon.
    Any suggestions?
  • Get in early, and pay the very cheap price to stand, and get a place right up by the stage so as to lean on it during the play, and take the weight off your feet.
Highly recommended except if it is bucketing down.
