I guess it’s not so bad to remember we’ve played some of the top teams already now and not done that badly, but the lack of creative players in our squad let alone fit ones worries me a lot.
Can’t understand all this negativity toward the performance
Thought we matched a decent team in a game that could’ve gone either way. They are probably better than us but we gave it a good go
Hope we can raise it again for Saturday
Early days
Completely agree. They put in a real shift and I thought we were the better side for large parts of the game. Much of their advantage was down to the abysmal ref. Difficult to pick a MOM - they all played their hearts out. Very disappointing end - felt like we were mugged and didn't deserve that.
I cannot be too critical because I think the manager and players gave all that they had to give on the night.
We were up against a team that always looked to have that bit more of a cutting edge than us and a referee who was determined not to be regarded as a 'homer.'
The longer it stayed 0-0 the more inevitable it became that Peterborough would nick a late goal. The only surprise was that it was a penalty. I cannot give an opinion on whether it was a fair penalty from my position in Covered End Upper.
Whilst I have said I cannot fault the effort it is frustrating that I cannot remember the Peterborough goalkeeper, Chapman, having to make a save worthy of the name. The delivery from deadball situations was appalling too in the main.
Good points were Albie Morgan playing two or three incisive passes to set other players on their way. They came to nothing for various reasons but it is encouraging that a young player has that vision. Shelvey was probably the last one.
The referee annoyed me not because we suffered the rough end of his decisions but because of his inconsistency. Pratley was booked for holding comparatively early on yet Taylor was held all game and no Peterborough player was booked for the offence until deep into the second half.
On the preview I posted, somewhat tongue in cheek, that plucky little Charlton were playing one of this division's giants.
After tonight I believe that Peterborough will be top six, even top two, and our limitations to coping at that rarified level were all too clear to see.
We did our best and that's all you can ask really with the lunatic at the helm for the forseeable. Maybe we can nick something against Fleetwood on Saturday to keep ourselves away from the bottom 4.
Some strange decisions by the ref, as well as the penalty, which wasn't.
What about when one of their players went down holding his head looking for a foul, he waved play on then few seconds later stopped play indicating the said player had a head injury.
The guy shot up had a rant at the ref and he then gave them a free kick?
I remember that - it was farcial and showed how biased he was.. He gave it because Evans was bouncing around like a hippo on a pogo stick foghorning . That was sadly not the worse decision.
Fuming after that penalty, and many other decisions by the officials
I thought a draw would have been a fair result. Full marks to our players for the effort given, but attacking wise we were rather ineffective, the dead balls were generally rubbish and some of our passing, especially in the first half was poor.
Surprised by the sub, but Ajose made a real difference, which makes his recent exclusion a mystery. He was appreciated by the Covered End too.
I actually enjoyed tonight, first half they shaded, second we were the better team. Lots of half chances but it was not to be. Looked like a blatant handball/penalty for us just before they won theirs.
Like the look of Beilik, still don’t get Sarr, Page is growing as a player with us and seeing Solly snap into two tackles of old was great to watch. Though Morgan started very well but faded after the booking. Grant full of confidence but needs better decision making. Taylor needs to battle harder and not look for free kicks.
All in all, they gave their all, as a fan that is all I ask and lots more than many in recent years. We lack that ‘x factor’, that player to rise above the rest/to run past his man with the ball. Maybe once Fosu is back?
Well done LB and the team and unlucky. Don’t think the best team won today but if we play like that for the season we will win more than we lose and give ourselves a chance of top 6 IMO.
I thought it was an even game and were on top for the 2nd half, ruined by a poor ref performance. Ajose made an impact when he came on, just need some of the other to get back fit.
Good team.perfomance that gives us heart for the battles ahead. The Fat Controller is rightly getting the usual abuse he probably deserves but one thing he did say in the build up to the game was spot on, 'We will need to be better for longer tomorrow as Charlton are a top League One club. They belong in the Championship and once they sort themselves out behind the scenes I’m sure that’s where they well end up.' If only....
The Sky video isn't up yet - but here's their match report:
"Peterborough continued their perfect start to the League One season with a 1-0 victory at Charlton secured by Jason Cummings' controversial penalty.
The hosts had remained on course for a point until the 89th minute when referee James Linington penalised Lewis Page for his challenge on Ivan Toney. Charlton felt they should have been awarded a penalty for handball just before that.
Amid the Addicks' fury, Cummings stepped up to score his fourth goal of the season beyond goalkeeper Dillon Phillips, securing Peterborough's fourth win from four which keeps them top of the league at the end of an evening when they could even have lost.
Amid the hosts' slow start, in the 20th minute Steve Evans' team were unfortunate not to take the lead when Ryan Tafazolli's close-range header beat Phillips, hit the crossbar and was then cleared off the line by Chris Solly.
Charlton then threatened when Albie Morgan, making his full league debut for the club, broke at speed and fed Lyle Taylor, who struck at goal but saw Aaron Chapman save via a deflection.
Their interim manager Lee Bowyer was booked for challenging Linington after the official had consistently been challenged by his opposite number Evans, but Evans was also given a yellow card at half-time for doing so again during the interval.
If Peterborough had deserved to take the lead early in the second half, Charlton also deserved a goal thereafter.
First Siriki Dembele burst clear to go one-on-one with Phillips, who produced a fine save when he shot on goal, and then Colin Daniel worked his way into a promising shooting position before sending his finish wide.
Taylor twice went close as the hosts became the likelier goalscorers, but after Toney avoided a potential penalty for a handball under pressure, he then had a significant hand at the opposite end in Cummings securing all three points."
Gutted !! Didn't deserve to lose & a draw would have been a fair result. Won't say anything about the ref as its already been said - just ask the EFL to look at 2 incidents....the "head injury" that became their free kick & our free kick that he initially pointed the wrong way as if he'd forgotten we'd changed ends at half time.....farcical.
Defence was solid & I like the look of the Arsenal fella.....reminded me of Carl Tiler. Prately put a shift in (again) and Morgan did ok seeing as it was his first start. However.....we have nothing going forward. None of our players cross the ball ( Solly in particular. No point being a wingback if when you are level with their box you cut inside & pass it square) ....none of them run at players like their Dembele (fingers crossed that Fosu is back soon) & none have any creativity. Our set plays are woeful too.....do they practice anything in training ?? leaving corners to Morgan & then Ajose....wtf ??? We played some neat football & were involved in a great end to end game.....but our best chance of scoring came from their defenders sliding clearance. Taylor did have 2 shots....so will give him some credit but he must learn to stop grappling with the centre halves all the time & concentrate on finding space instead.
Right now I feel like that tv reporter shown on "It will be alright on the night" years ago..."Golfaddick, reporting from The Valley...I'm pissed off, mightily pissed off"
Then don’t open the thread and don’t fill it with that?
Don’t mean to be rude, but I’m proper gutted with that as the boys put in a real shift. You don’t want to discuss it, or have no interest in it, fine, no problem.
Maybe go off and support someone else if you don’t care
Apologises to all regarding my post. It was in poor timing and taste. Not rude at all @AFKABartram , perfectly correct to call me out on it.
The sad thing is that I really struggle to care anymore if at all, my support and connection to the club has been completely eroded away over the last few years. I will never support another football team other than Charlton, they will always be my team and no other football team will ever replace them. I still look out for the scores but that is it, I'm down to the bare minimum.
Ironically one of the last things keeping me connected is CL itself and its fantastic array of members, I don't really come on here for the football anymore but for the width and quality of discussion on the vast amount of other topics that pop up here.
Surely I can't be the only Lifer suffering from incredibly high blood pressure following tonight's "game" at The Valley ?
I've read all the posts made thus far and most point the finger at the officials, especially that imbecile of a man masquerading as a referee for not only spoiling a decent match but also for managing to squeeze his stupid body into the fat man's pocket.
I honestly cannot believe what I witnessed tonight and my heart goes out to Lee, JJ and our honest, hard working players who worked their socks off only to be knocked back time after time by pathetic decision making from the "man" in black. How our lads managed to hold their tempers , I'll never know. How I'd love to have 5 mins with him....
Keeping it brief, as the tranquilisers are starting to kick in now, I thought we were tremendous out there against our 14 opponents. What we may have lacked at times in finesse or accuracy, we made up for in perseverance and bravery. Few tackles were shirked & the lads competed for the ball all over the hallowed turf.
It would be unfair to single out anyone for either praise or criticism with the former easier to do than the latter, but I thought our Naby was very solid in a defence that on the whole did what it says on the tin.
I thought young Albie committed himself really well & certainly didn't look out of place despite an early booking that I felt was particularly harsh. Hopefully he will keep working hard when more senior players are fit, and give Bow some much needed strength & depth to his squad.
The penalty awarded with great alacrity at the final knockings almost brought me to tears. This was the ultimate kick in the teeth and rounded off an evening that had been full of emotion from the first to last whistle. The sight of Posh's Mr Nasty punching the air in celebration was nauseating in the extreme in comparison with our despondent leader turning away from the sight. No justice on display tonight, that's for sure.
As someone posted earlier, I feel nothing but loathing for this poor excuse of a manager. He clearly intended to wind up our guys and intimidate the officials from the off with the latter proving extremely successful based on the number of dubious if not pathetic decisions given in favour of his team. I honestly thought that Bow was heading for him across the pitch at the final whistle with the intention of punching his lights out but of course, he's a far better person than I'd have been in his situation. And for that, I salute him.
I left the ground tonight angry, emotional & hurting for myself but more so for our lads and their management.
But most of all, like AFKA I felt incredibly proud of them and of our fans for both giving their all tonight. Long may it continue, despite the cr*ppy situation that our club is in at this time. Think how it can be once The Rat has left the building....
Thought we played ok, can't comment on penalty as it was at the other end, couple of more loan signings and a few players back we will be a decent 3rd tier team easily mid table, if Igor can start scoring, assuming 1) he stays & 2) he stays fit, we might just challenge for a top 6 place. As for any takeover that is a farce and gawd knows what if anything might happen.

I love Bowyer's passion.
Light years away from the likes of Karel Fraeye.
I like Bowyer as a manager. We shouldn't have lost today. His tactics nullified Posh after their bright start and the late penalty was a travesty.
We just need Roland OUT.
We lost.
