I tried looking back at old threads - can only find positives about Wilder from fans. Interesting post from a trusted lifer suggests the Roland unwiling to give control in writing rather than verbally has legs! Info from a close friend of Wilders!

The stuff he was mumbling about a British manager - it was the club who decided to appoint a British manager, fans just wanted a decent manager who undertsood the British game at lower league level! Nationality was never an issue!

In terms of bonuses, if I think I am getting a bonus and I think I have done what I need to do to get it and I don't the fault is probably with those that gave me that impression. It seems a bit stupid to use bonuses to demoralise staff! But hey ho!

I don't think there is one answer he gave that can't be picked to pieces!

The whole conversation went steadily downhill....in part he believes what he is saying yet in other contrived answers its obvious he is just winging it.

The longer this goes on, the less likely he is of getting a reasonable return on his investment...so best to just cut and run like most other business owners would.

So he spent 'a lot of time in the beginning to understand what the problems were' did he? And apparently decided that the problems were Chris Powell and Yann Kermorgant? Idiot.

    You’re forgetting Morrison.

    I

Do you think RD personally hand picked the players to send over himself? The first transfer window was a total cluster fuck, even KM and RM admitted as much. The second transfer window was slightly better don't you agree? As was the 3rd. So of the 3 windows when he owned Charlton and Standard I would go as far as to say were of a net benefit to us.

It also ignores the entire story of the network itself, mismanagement, disappointing results and strife at Standard

Who almost won the league and qualified for the champions league?

Are you forgetting our Spanish cousins who are as successful as they have histoically ever been?

It is possible to actually give some credit, where it is due, without defending the undefendable.

Ps sorry I buggered up the formatting

Ok, so your last point first. I see you are a relatively new Lifer. So you wouldn't be aware that when RD came in I was relatively positive about him and about the concept of the network. Airman Brown and others might say it also took me too long to accept just how bad it quickly became behind the scenes too. Just to set the stall out...

I don't agree any of those windows were "good", because there was never a settled manager in place who could influence the windows in the way Chris Powell did for 2011-12, with most targets identified even before the previous season ended. The entire concept of RD's netowrk was predicated on the idea that "spare resource" at one club could be used at another. He even tried it with the manager vacancy, the guy from Ujpest.

Re Standard. I knew sweet fa about Standard until Roland came along, but I know quite a lot now, having spent a lot of time in dialogue with the Standard Socios, and getting a trip round their atmospheric stadium and city. So here is what I think is important to know about them:

    - Standard are one of the top three teams in Belgium with Club Brugge and Anderlecht. They have never been relegated from the top flight.
-as such, championships and European campaigns are expected there about as much as they are at Anfield.
    - he sold young talented players such as Batshuyai, and took a €30m dividend out
    - when he left, the squad was threadbare and sank to the bottom of the league from which they had never been relegated
    - while they recovered they are still, by their history, underperforming
    - Alcorcon. A bright start. Well hooray. It won't last. they will finish mid table as they have done every season, and with crowds so small that nobody would notice if anyone was boycotting.

I am all for giving credit where it's due. I am even more for respecting an overwhelming body of evidence when evaluating a business leader's tenure.

Roland Duchatelet on talkSPORT – key topics:
Says lack of communication with fans is mainly to blame for his problems at the club.
Explains unpaid bonuses to staff members.
Says he has been afraid to attend games in the past due to fan hatred.
Accuses fans of sabotaging a move to appoint Chris Wilder as manager.
Accuses fan protests of playing a part in Charlton’s relegation from the Championship.
Insists he is still putting money into the club and ‘helped build a strong team’ for this season.
Says Lee Bowyer is a ‘very good man and character’ and ‘very suitable for Charlton’, but admits he is not in regular contact with the manager.
Says investors are still interested and ‘hopes’ Charlton are promoted this season so he can sell.

So we’re nearly up to 5 years of miserable ownership, and still no end in sight, the old codger is deluded, what price does he put on his own happiness?

What a waste of thought, breath, time and everyone’s money that bloke is!

Called us a mistake purchasing the club. He needs to end the relationship immediately. All he needed to do was to look at the history of the fan activism in the past i.e. the back to the valley campaign to realize what he was getting into. JW did keep asking him why not sell and cut your losses but he did not respond and did not name a price. Obviously trying to get all his money back ! He’s waiting to see if we get promoted to up his price.

You bit off more than you could chew so just sell now to end this debacle.
